Really some small section of the rules committee wants to put a clause in for vote. Many hurdles and in the end, is it likely to pass? But we are seeing the true GOP problem... They can't rally around a single candidate.

That has almost no chance of working.

The time to stop Trump was during the primary season. Either the other candidates couldn't, or didn't try very hard. I suppose they figured him for what he is, a silly-season candidate, and expected he'd implode sooner or later. And once they decided the voters were serious, it was too late.

The good news is that as the party won't rally around him, and indeed there will be a series of conflicts about it, he has very little chances of actually winning the election.

The other bad news, mostly for the GOP but a little for everyone as well, is that if Republican voters get too turned off about the whole thing, their party will do terribly in Congressional and Senate races. This may weaken the opposition too much.
