I'm seeing references now to Nuclear Fusion energy being right around the corner, with a plant ready to operate in Va in 2030

The plans are definitely in place to do this. I predict what the future holds is a change from "Fusion: always a decade away" to "Fusion: always 5 years away" ... I guess that's progress.

I say that because the problem of getting more energy out of the reactor than you put into it is far from being solved, the last I ever heard

the article indicates getting more out than in is just 2 years away

I'm not buying it, been hearing this for the last 40 years that it's just around the corner. It's just scientists trying to get more grant money. The oil industry would never allow this to happen as long as there's oil to get out of the ground.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Yuichi Oike at
Kumamoto University in Japan and his colleagues fed powdered golden oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) to 10 middle-aged mice and monitored their heart health. The mice ate about 9 grams of powdered mushrooms per kilogram of body weight daily.

After a year, the mice had
significantly better heart function than those that weren't fed the mushrooms. For instance, their hearts pumped about 20 per cent more blood, on average, to the body with each contraction. They could also run faster and further, and they had lower levels of genetic markers associated with heart failure (npj aging, doi.org/n2zr).
These metrics usually worsen with age, suggesting that golden oyster mushrooms, which are native to Russia, China and Japan, may protect against age-related declines in cardiovascular health.

some thoughts about this article

* the site probably Gen Z loaded, with radical Millennials at the top [edited]
* mankind "deserves" to be obliterated, it says ... and this was not just the headline writer
* the asteroid is big enough to wipe out a city, but the irony that this will not wipeout very many humans [relatively speaking] zooms over their heads
* the chances of it hitting in 2032 are 1 in 83, deemed very significant, and I agree
* the theory that any near-miss near earth object will eventually get closer and closer each pass, till it does collide unless other objects interfere, is missing again and I never see it mentioned. Call it the 'odiousgambit theory'

If Elon Musk gets people on Mars, they can watch the Earth be destroyed from there.

Between Ai and quantum computing maybe we will solve some of these problems sooner.

OR it could all be just around the corner like fusion. In other words, some indefinite time no one knows.

Anybody else see the long-term well-funded study has concluded that regular use of cannabis in any form screws with your short-term and long-term memory. Gosh who would have thought that dope, which is called dope because it makes you Dopey, would screw you up. What a revelation.

Found this on the other forum you camp on, maybe the creepiest thing I've ever read....

"I have one bedroom Kitty that sleeps with me all night and keeps me company. He's very special and I spoil the crap out of him."

Jesus dude, that's just sick. Special?

I think all my pets are special.
