This is not a difficult concept. If the $600/week was an unemployment weekly BONUS, that means that it’s added to the normal unemployment amount. That being the case, $15/hour would still be less than if someone got the $600/week bonus and was making more than $0/hour, because it doesn’t cancel the regular unemployment benefits—it’s an add on. At the time of the $600 bonus, and in the very short-term, taking the $15/hour job would be worse. Long-term it’s obviously better because I can’t imagine these added unemployment bonuses can last forever. I also don’t imagine even extending the base benefits can last forever. Raising MW across the board creates an increase in labor costs in markets artificially where no such increase was demanded, or necessary, by market conditions. Because of this, entities impacted by the wage hike will have to raise costs accordingly...because certainly businesses are not just going to take it all in stride and just pay more without making the costs up somewhere else. Also, many entities that would be paying less than $15/hour in the first place have been extremely negatively impacted by COVID. Think restaurants/retail/service/hospitality. So, those businesses are already hurting and increasing the labor costs will just make that worse. The minimum wage could be $100/hour and it’s not going to matter when there are no businesses who can afford to stay in business—and therefore—no jobs. What they should have done and still should do is find some acceptable minimum wage point and then index it to inflation. While it wouldn’t completely eliminate income disparities, it would at least ensure that you don’t go periods of many years without MW increases. But, artificially increasing labor costs now will just increase costs to consumer as a direct result. Ultimately, markets will end up just playing the same exact game with bigger numbers. I could also go into why people making more than MW, but less than $15/hour, would be negatively impacted by a $15/hour minimum wage if their own wages don’t end up (as a percentage) being more than $15/hour compared to where they are now....but that would be an even longer post. But it is a difficult concept for people who have never run a business! They think money gets delivered by the Monopoly guy in a wheelbarrow three times a day then the owner rolls in it like Scrouge McDuck. They have no concept of business and think people are supposed to be paid on what they "need" not the value they deliver. They hate business owners because the owners have had success in life where they had none. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

I'd say I've had plenty of success in my life. I'd venture to say most people would think I'm more successful than guys twice my age who are forced to work side hustle after side hustle to make ends meet. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

My wife ran a brick and mortar business for 15 years, 7 days a week. Lots of people treated her like she was a Rockefeller. She worked her butt off for $30k a year. And when the first real challenge came, a raise in her lease payment, she had to bail. But way too many people looked down their noses at her like she was rich. Idiots. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Same story everywhere. Liberals think money comes by magic. Think the business owner is just taking advantage of the employees. They are upset it is not them making it. See the same on YouTube. Long haired, maggot infested, dope smoking, FM Types just say that because some business somewhere can do it then they all can. Meanwhile they never do anything to show they deserve more than the $9 an hour they are making. It is modern USA. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

LOL!!! They SUCCEEDED at business until an entity, OUR government, decided to compete with them by paying a kid who was working at Panera $900 a week to sit on his ass. Can any business compete with that? SHOULD any? To me this is an easy NO! To a liberal who thinks money can just be printed with no consequences, the answer appears to be yes! Another reason I HATE liberalism. Encouraging sitting on your ass to working. |

And we congratulate you.... you went to school to get a degree.... that you turned into a decent paying job.... and you have been a worker for many years..... I am happy for you, and am glad you are successful. No one says to be successful you need to own a business...... You have made yourself through education and hard work valuable to a business owner.... and are reaping the rewards..... just like I did.... A freaking 7 card straight flush helps, too..... |

Uh Huh. A funny thing will happen soon. The sun will be going down at 5:15 (earlier on the W coast) and it will be dark and cold and you're stuck in your rolling walk-in closet 15 hours a day. Let the real fun begin. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
