For lefties the science is always settled, of course until it's not.

"Per a new study in the journal Nature Geoscience, just 500,000 metric tons of plastic end up in the world’s oceans each year, not the 8 million tons previously bewailed."

1/16 of the previously claimed settled science amount.

Why is this a left-right thing??

Can’t we all agree 500,000 metric tons of plastic in the oceans each year is bad? Or is it “woke” to think that?

According to a recent study published in the journal Nature Geoscience, just **500,000 metric tons** of plastic end up in the world’s oceans each year, not the 8 million tons previously bemoaned³. However, a new study has found that the amount of plastic on the ocean surface is much higher than previously thought, at about **three million tons**². The Guardian reported that new measurements of the top 200m of the Atlantic found between 12 and 21 million tonnes of microscopic particles of three of the most common types of plastic, in about 5% of the ocean⁴.

It’s all estimates. Which is better? Still lots of plastic. Enjoy your fishplastic dinner.

My guess if anything belongs in the oceans, it would actually be biodegradable and not harmful. So any plastic is likely too much.

The next settled science thing will be that the rise in oceans will only be 1/16 of that claimed. Oh I forgot that has already happened. How about global warming will be only 1/16 of the amount that settled science claims.

When you go to work what would you think if the boss said I am only paying you 1/16 of the wages you thought you would get.

The real issue is that truth in science no longer matters as long as it helps your political agenda.

The bulk of plastic in the oceans is coming from the developing countries. A significant amount of that plastic is shipped to those countries from developed countries to 'recycle'. If we would bury our plastic or better burn it for energy we could make a difference. Banning plastic straws in your city won't make one iota of difference, it is just a sop so you can feel like you are 'doing something'.

I personally despise paper straws, FWIW.

As for the other stuff in the post, you just seem very angry and looking for stuff to blame liberals for.

'Every year, 11 million metric tons of plastics enter our ocean on top of the estimated 200 million metric tons that currently circulate our marine environments.'

75% of it is from Asian countries.

They're finding microplastics in human organs and blood. Most recently in the hearts of patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Microplastics Found In Human Hearts For First Time, Showing Impact Of Pollution

'Fishery products are an important source of microplastics in the human diet. Once ingested, microplastics reach the gastrointestinal tract and can be absorbed causing oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, and translocation to other tissues.'

'The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP) is a floating vortex of debris in the North Pacific Ocean. It spans 1.6 million square kilometers (or over 600,000 square miles) from California to Japan with Hawaii in the middle.' - 94% are microplastics.

What are you predicting? Plastic in the oceans makes no difference? Climate change is a hoax? Good luck with either of those ideas.

I am only doing what I have done all my life. When I was young in the 60's and early 70's I protested and complained about mostly conservative governments lying too me and trying to restrict our freedom of speech. For many years under both conservative and liberal governments the attacks on freedom of speech seemed somewhat better. Now we have full blown attacks on our freedom of speech again, but this time by the liberals. Time for this old soldier to fight for freedom again seeing the younger generations have been brainwashed to be happy to give up their freedoms.

(Reuters) - Montana is violating the rights of young people with policies that prohibit the state from considering climate change effects when it reviews coal mining, natural gas extraction and other fossil fuel projects, a state judge said Monday.

The decision by Judge Kathy Seeley in Helena marked a major victory in the first youth-led climate case to reach trial in the U.S. and could influence similar cases nationwide.

In her ruling, Seeley said Montana’s greenhouse gas emissions have been proven to be "a substantial factor" in causing climate impacts to Montana's environment, harming the young plaintiffs.

The 16 plaintiffs sued Montana in 2020, when they were ages 2 to 18, claiming the state's permitting of projects like coal and natural gas production exacerbated the climate crisis, despite a 1972 amendment to the Montana constitution requiring the state to protect and improve the environment.

Seeley said the plaintiffs have a “fundamental constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment." She said policies that prohibit state agencies from considering climate and emissions impacts when approving fossil fuel projects are unconstitutional.

personally I find it disgusting to pretend children are doing something like this when it is obviously their goofy parents

this will be overturned. The judge will go on to be a US senator from California

The woman is not qualified to be a judge. Someone needs to tell the spoiled brat kids if they want to "stop climate change" to stop using their furnaces and hot water. They probably live in their parents McMansions.
