There have been some happenings in Florida where a person goes online to the secretary of state website and files corporate minutes for a company that they do not have a relationship with. They will elect themselves in the minutes to a position such as owner/president/ceo. Then they are able to sell the company and the real owners have no idea. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

I can say that in my title career it amazed me how open to fraud the whole thing is. I still remember mentoring a new kid and telling him how a Quit Claim Deed is not worth the paper it is printed on. Later I found an article where some guy did such a deed to himself for some weird island of some sort. I sent the kid the article with a "now do you believe me?" He did the first time but I added it for fun. But it may be on track to be the next big thing. One good defense is put an unused HELOC on any free and clear property. Fraudsters will see it and move on to an easier target. I can see in the years to come where you can or will have a "lock" like a credit freeze and enhanced verifications. War is peace.
