Fox News let go of host Maria Bartiromo for leaking company information to the Trump administration, according to a report.

Thursday’s announcement stunned the media world with little explanation of why she was no longer with the network. In a brief statement, Fox said: “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” and said her departure was effective immediately.

Hours later, media watchdog Status provided more details. According to the outlet, after Trump gave a speech in July about election interference, Fox Business officials ordered the network’s top stars to stay clear of Trump's unsubstantiated claims. Several outlets noted that Fox gave little airtime to Trump’s speech in the hours and days that followed.

Bartiromo then leaked the company directive to the White House, according to Status. It's unclear if she reached out first, or the Trump team made the request.

By sharing the information, Bartiromo violated the terms of her employment agreement, Status noted.
