Market crashing

I'm not trying to 'impress" anyone, really: I've mentioned it to rebut implied claims that stoners like me must be failures in life.

I'm in the top two percent, wealth-wise, I believe: roughly half of that is real estate, the other half is mostly brokered three month CD's:the remainder is comprised of various stocks plus IRA's consisting of mostly stocks / ETF's; I also have an IRA in annuity form and some local bank accounts..

I also have a goodly horde of cash, most is in a safe deposit box.

Between when President Trump “took the reins” on Jan 20, 2025 and the date of your post, Mar 13, the DJIA is down about 4.5%, S&P 500 is down about 7% and the NASDAQ is down about 10.8%.

So if you are down $20,000 since President Trump “took the reins” and your portfolio performed similar to the NASDAQ, your investments are worth approximately $185,000, if similar to the S&P 500 the number is approx $285,000 and if similar to the DJIA the number is approx $445,000.

Wow, for someone who has bragged about how successful he has been, I am not impressed at all.

P.S. Yes I know that you said that you are down "more" than $20,000, which would result in a larger investment worth. If your loss was $30,000 the numbers would be approx $273,000, $425,000 or $670,000 (still not impressive)

I do of course agree that Trump is responsible for this disruption in ‘the economy’. Clearly he is the proximate cause of the market pullback. And likely will be seeing a continuation of the inflation from the previous administration. I hadn’t thought about it much, but Trump’s empire is somewhat insulated from stock market ups and downs. He has less skin in the game than most of his billionaire and millionaire friends.

Ed, you’ve been railing since before Trump was even elected how bad he’d be for the economy, the market, etc. Can I assume you sold your stocks and used the cash to short the market? You are a millionaire by now, right? Or you weren’t sure and were just guessing? Which is it?
