They were and are a center of opiate addiction and abuse, but people have been abusing opium for 2,000 years and opiate addiction is everywhere in the US.

missedhervee Member since: Apr 23, 2021 Threads: 166 Posts: 5746	Yes, opiate abuse is / was a national problem but I got the impression that at its height the most problematical and devastated areas were typically red states, i.e. "Hillbilly heroin" in Appalachia.
