With the recent rash of Air India 171 it was the first major accident of a Boeing 787. The 787 has been flying commercially for 14 years. I believe the plane that crashed was only 12 years old and only around 8000 landings.

When I first saw this accident I "knew" exactly what is was. By the way the plane barely got off the runway at the very end, when it should have been in the air with a couple thousand feet remaining, it was obvious to be the pilots did not have the flap setting in and it was a hot day so that would explain using the whole runway,

Next we got a statement from the sole survivor, 240 dead, that the emergency lighting went on right before the crash and he heard a loud noise. None of that would be caused by a lack of flaps

Next, ATC released the MAYDAY call where the pilots says loss of engines. Once again, nothing related to the flaps.

Finally blurry video with sound apparently shows the emergency hydraulic pump and electrical generator were deployed )RAM Air Turbine).

Lastly, it appears that the landing gear is tilted forward when not retracted, this would indicate it started to retract and then failed probably because loss of hydraulics.

My conclusion, I should not even be speculating on something like this because I highly doubt the problem was flaps.

\\Hopefully the black box information will be made public soon.

Maybe Russia has made a high energy terror weapon that can shut-down electronics of commercial aircraft. Just wild speculation.

Plus I would think military aircraft would be hardened against such possibilities.

Attacking a Boeing plane in India -- a way to attack an American company surreptitiously
.

100% no evidence. But we do know Putin has zero regard for killing civilians as part of war.

India and Pakistan just had a nasty spat, so that the Pakies did it must be one theory what with the report of a big bang if that report is factual

Analysis shows deployment of the RAT after lift-off, indicative of a loss of electrical and / or hydraulic power.

I'd never heard of RAT before...pretty clever.

Would make no sense. India and Russia are allies. If Russia wanted to do that, it would make more sense to choose a less friendly nation.

I believe they have been included in many commercial airplanes for a long time. I first remember seeing them in military aircraft.

one of these activated on a flight I was on a long time ago. It made a bang coming on. The stewards were not expecting it and didn't have an explanation for the noise at first. The bang that was hear on this Air India flight was maybe this, now that I think about it

I imagine they've examined the black box they recovered by now, unless no one does that work until Monday.
