My mother likes Mr. Robot. She had me watch an episode at her house. I recall it being rather slow but probably would have watched it again, marginally, if given the chance. Then I totally forgot about it. I don't even know what channel its on.

It is very slow, and seems very low budget. It was a summer series on USA network and had only 10 episodes. The whole show was filed in little over 10 weeks, and they were finishing filming before the 4th episode aired. It never cracked 2 million viewers.

When I say low budget I don't mean cheezy. It is very intense in a paranoid schizophrenic sort of way.

In many ways, it's a noir masterpiece. It's
dark and disjointed and has quirky characters
and you think you know what's going on and
you really don't. I'd like to watch it again, but
it bothered me on so many levels the first
time thru, I probably won't. Whoever wrote
it knows how to push buttons. Did you notice
the two actors who won got a lot of applause?
Hollywood knew this was a good one.

Reminds me a little of Blue Velvet, I've never
watched that again either.

Ricky Gervais may get to take a lot of shots at celebrities at the Golden Globes, but they apparently gave the late David Bowie this prime part of massive put downs on Gervais office character. (think that's what it's from)

That was actually an episode from Extras aired in January 2006. Extras was shorter lived than "The Office". In this episode Gervais's character has just had the pilot of his TV series air, and he is expecting VIP treatment at the bar. Instead he is asked to give up his table for David Bowie. And yes, Gervais did right the lyrics and Bowie the melody. David Bowie gives a self-effacing comic interview about his guest spot on the show.

I have always been impressed with the quality of 1990's+ David Bowie's cosmetic maintenance. His skin always looked pretty natural, even though it was clear that wrinkles, bags, and sags, had been artificially dealt with. Typically, plastic surgery stretches the skin too much (think Kenny Rogers or Barry Manilow).

I saw "Steve Jobs". The movie is straight up dialogue between Steve Jobs and significant others in his life. It feels like watching a live play on stage, as many of the shots are single camera, extended takes of characters dialoging about facts, trivia, and "maybe this is the first time you've heard this" behind the scenes tidbits about the man, his role in Apple Corporate history, and his relationship with four or five others; including key Apple executives, and a child born out of wedlock. The majority of the movie is set backstage in the few hours leading up new product unveilings, giving the interactions an artificial sense of urgency as the time ticks down to going on stage for the presentations. It is, and feels, contrived.

If you are an Apple geek, you will find the movie interesting since you are in awe of the man's "genius", but if you don't know or care anything about the history of Apple, you will be lost in the "two slots...blah blah blah...motherboard...blah blah blah...OS...blah blah blah...child support".

I give the film three Macs out of five.

Pretty overwhelming favorite in all acting categories. Strange case again where favorite for BEST PICTURE may not win any other major awards, but there is still a bit of a toss up for BEST PICTURE/DIRECTOR between Spotlight and The Revenant. I think a split is in order here. One gets BP and the other BD.

SW:TFA netted five nominations, including best sound editing, sound mixing, visual effects, film editing, and original score (for legendary composer John Williams).

Hateful Eight is bombing big time. Been
open 2 weeks and hasn't made $50 mil
yet. Got 74% on Rotten. The police union
is taking credit for boycotting, they might
be right. A lot of people were turned off
by Tarantino and his shooting off his mouth
about cops.
