Sometimes there are exceptions

There are always exceptions, that's why
it's not a 'truth'.

Quote:
your statement about the eternal being now.

It's neither profound truth or
opinion, it's a fact. Like the sun
comes up in the east, or we need
air to breathe.

Here is another one: "Profound truths are not truth, they are opinions." This one I disagree with completely

How you feel about it changes nothing,
it's still just my opinion. The whole point
of this is to make clear that myths are
not about carrying on 'profound truths',
they're about trying to explain a mysterious
world to uneducated ignorant people.
Once science started to come up with the
real answers, the need for myths vanished.

Except for religious myths, like Xtionity,
those still make money for a lot of people
so they continue weakly on. You yourself
earn a living on the Xtion myth, do you not?
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

There are exceptions that is why it is called a 'profound truth'.

Is it a fact? Why do you think that? I tend to believe that we have a past that we can learn from and a future full of hope. The present is a gift and we live in the present, but it is not eternal, quite the opposite - it is fleeting.

You are not serious if you think that people in the ancient world went around actually believing that it was winter because some god on Mt. Olympus was missing her daughter for six months. These were stories that you learned lessons from for living your life not for doing meteorology. Even the ancient people you degrade far too often knew this, why don't you?

The need for myths and good stories is more important in a society dominated by technology and science.

I call it a vocation and very few people would call it a living. I do it because I heard the retirement benefits are out of this world, literally!

Calling it that doesn't make it that.

It's actually solid as a rock. The eternal
present is all we have, the past and
future are just ideas. We are trapped
in the eternal moment. It's why people
use drugs, to escape the burden of it.
To escape for a few hours the burden
of dealing with life moment to moment.
We use TV and movies for the same
reason, to escape.

They certainly believed their gods were
real. Some places had the penalty of
death for not believing. The Greeks
believed in their gods power and
believed they could perform miracles.
The early Xtions stole this idea and
gave Jesus that fictional power.

Trying to explain his fading relevance.

Call it what you like, you still make a

doing it. Of course you're going to
defend it, just like all company men do.

The past is not just an idea, it is real and effects us now and into the future. The future is real as well and I'm wondering what you mean by it being just an idea?

You are full of profound truths today, this is a good one.

More like a liberal arts major I think. Anyway, human beings do not live by just facts and figures. We are moved by stories, we are inspired by other's actions, we live for adventure. Myths were never meant to take the place of science, they were to balance it.

Every company man I have ever met will love to be given an opportunity to complain or criticize his company. Especially in an annyonomous forum such as this. Rest assure I do not get a bump in salary for being here, even if you abandon your foolishness and recognize the truth of Jesus Christ your Savior it won't effect my bottom line. It will however raise my spirits.

If ever you said anything that wasn't wrong about the Church and ill informed by the crazy things you were taught then I would happily agree with you. There is much in the Church that cannot be defended and I certainly won't fall on any swords here in this remote place of the internet.

The past is not just an idea, it is real

It effects us as an idea. The result of
what we built in the past can effect
us today, and does. But that isn't
the past, it's a result of past actions.

It's why you continually crucify Jesus
on his cross in your Church. It's to
keep the idea of what happened in
the past fresh in peoples minds.
Jesus must be crucified continuously
or his story loses relevance and power
over the congregation. Even your
Church recognizes only the present
exists, that's why Jesus is crucified
in it every minute of the day. You
think he got up and walked away.
He didn't, he's still up there doing
his job.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

What? It's not wrong at all, why do you
say that. Why else is he still up there if not
as a constant reminder and a constant
testament that the event actually happened.

It's not unlike sports trophy's. They always
have a depiction on top of what the
trophy is for, a depiction of the event.

A crucifix has a depiction of Jesus crucified.
A constant reminder.

Do you not believe we are "fallen" or "broken" because a woman ate a piece of fruit given to her by a talking snake? Is that a story you can learn from and not a basis upon which to do morality?

I hear there are still priest eating cannibals
there, watch out. Don't convert anybody,
it's really rude when you're on vacay..

Don't worry about us, pray for yourself
and keep your valuables on you and
not in your room.
