Why get rid of the one that's not stupid? If we're going to add a stupid holiday, then it should only be if we get rid of a MORE stupid holiday. My candidates are Columbus Day or Labor Day. Actually, let's get rid of both of those and make Halloween an official holiday. Halloween for Columbus Day is basically a direct replacement. Halloween to me is the stupidest of days. I make some money from it but hate it. I would rather Columbus Day as his importance to history cannot be understated. Labor Day at least we usually have good weather, though it is one of the most synthetic holidays we have. I still remember a black guy I had worked with years before getting all angry when I said how much money MLK Day cost me and that I did not He Facebook unfriended me when I got tired of him and told him neither I or anybody else owed him a nickel for slavery reparations. Why is Halloween stupid? It's not a religious holiday and having the day of Halloween off would both be good for the kids and create a range of two days (Halloween celebrated or the day before) for Trick or Treating. I'm not going to make any fans for this take, but aren't Memorial Day and Veterans Day semi-redundant? Another thing about Veterans Day is that Thanksgiving is right around the corner anyway. What if we took Veterans Day and moved it to a day close to Halloween whilst eliminating Columbus Day entirely? We could have Veterans Day celebrated (in terms of being off) on the Friday prior to whatever day Halloween falls on. "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen..let us give them all they want." No, the NFL just needs to move the game to Saturday. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |
