That's just another poor result of lack of gun control. Sure cops risk their lives. But the choice to perform hero moves like running minimally prepared directly into a building with an armed person inside is above and beyond the call of duty, "to protect and serve". That's why they give out exceptional valor awards to police who do that.

whereas a trained swat team is something different.

Gun control has nothing to do with it. We have gun control.

When cops get to the scene of something like this the first thing the do is establish a perimeter. Then they try to figure out how many gunmen are inside. After that they will use tactics to move. People at the scene who scream for the cops to run in are emotional.

People who go on the news or on internet blogs and complain the cops did not "run in" are being monday morning quarterbacks.

Also for law abiding people. A good thing.

The guns are not the problem. A violent society that shows low regard for life is the problem. But fixing that takes more guts than calling to ban guns.

Instead of just trying to make it easy all around for purchase which is all they seem to be interested in. But they aren't smart, I guess.
