A candidate can get the majority of the votes and still lose the primary. This way, the party selects the candidate, rather than the voters. The party wanted to have the first female Mayor. Specifically a female with a hispanic surname. So, prior to the primary, the Queens dem faction, ran 135,000 ‘test’ ballots through the voting machines, all in the name of ‘Garcia’, and never removed them from the tally. She would be our Mayor today, had not Adams, knowing what the party is capable of, challenged the results and the Queens faction of the party had to apologize for the ‘error’, claiming they were ‘testing’ the machines, and forgot to remove the ballots from the tally. |
