He's 82, so I'd assume there would be rumors in the news over the years, not just now. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6378 | not releasing the 911 call recording is what is leaving open the remaining questions this is the Wikipedia version, "Seeking help from police, Pelosi told the intruder that he needed to use the bathroom, then he made a secret 911 call on his cellphone at 2:23 a.m. PDT. He left the line open, saying, "What's going on? Why are you here? What are you going to do to me?" These statements prompted the 911 dispatcher to send police to Pelosi's aid for a wellness check, which was credited with saving his life." This version leaves out DePape participating in the call, but supports the idea Pelosi felt he couldn't make it obvious he was wanting the police to come. It suggests he hoped the perp wouldn't know the phone was still on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Paul_Pelosi I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

Something wrong with laying off workers? Twitter workers seem to think they are at some sort of government job. Who cares. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

There are endless reasons to lose respect for Elon Musk, but I don't know if routine layoffs when taking over a company is one of them. Could it have been handled better? I honestly don't know, we just know more about it because it's so public, my guess is this happens at various companies around the world daily. Some stories sound messy, but I would guess there are far more messy stories in the corporate takeover world. I also have no ball in the court, I don't like Musk and I have never liked Twitter (and don't use any social media), so I may be less concerned about the shock than some. |

| DRich Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 57 Posts: 5896 | My guess is Riverjordan has never been in a position to fire employees. I have had to fire many employees and in general it didn't bother me much because they deserved it. Laying off employees was much harder for me because the employees were working hard doing their jobs but the company didn't have enough to pay them. One company that I worked for just closed their doors on a Monday morning with no notice to the employees. I found out about it on Saturday and invited my team out to breakfast Monday morning to break the news to them before they go to the office and saw the armed guards at the door. We all went in cleaned out our desks and headed to a bar. I bought all of the drinks until 5pm when work was over. I lost over a half a million dollars in company stock that day. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

First employee I had to lay off I had to have a drink after. I found a way to give her another chance but should not, but that is another story. Some I had to lay off and they were like "sure, whatever." Others were so clueless they had no idea. I have been laid off like 10 times since 2008. Some of those were projects ending, others were business slowing. But when someone form HR that I never saw before says who they are it is the opening scene in "Rounders" to me. I know before the cards are turned over. I about always knew it was coming even if the timing was a surprise. Some of the times I was lucky to be putting in 2 hours of actual work a day. Last job I left because I knew it was coming and an interesting job came up in another industry. Slightly less money but I knew that my time in title and mortgage was over for at least several years. Laid off? Get over it! War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |
