IF you read the following: "Service will resume at 24:00 on the 13th," would you assume this means service resumes the moment the 13th starts, or the moment the 13th ends?

For the record, I consider the day over at 23:59:59, which is followed by 0:00:00 of the next day.

I voted for the moment the 13th starts and am quite sure I'm correct about it. The ambiguity is why many events start at 12:01 AM.

Ugh. Hate this. It's one of those things that only my best friend knows, and will jab me with it every now and then to get me insanely fired up.

My personal opinion, AND THE ONLY RIGHT ANSWER, is that a time of day must apply directly to that day. Your "2400 on 13" cannot mean the night of the 13th, as that time means that day is over. It MUST mean the early morning of the 13th. It's the only way services can resume on the 13th.

If it's 2359 on the 12th, and those doors don't open in one minute, then that storekeep is an enemy of all that is right and just. You should immediately cease patronage and open a black hole on his stoop, erasing the mistake from existence. It is the only way.

Information is not lost in a black hole.

What you mean is to douse the place with antimatter and annihilate it. The information will still be preserved, but FUBAR enough to be, well, BAR ;)

I agree. You might find this infuriating, though:

When calculating dates, I tend to add up to a number beyond the natural number of days in a month. This works well for me. So for instance, something taking place 13 days after April 20th will fall on the 33rd of April, which my brain merrily translates to May 3rd ;)

Ok, at first I had to mentally substract the number of days in the original month. So after adding, say 15 days to February 19th and getting Feb 34th, I had to deduce 28 days to make it March 6th. These days my mind sort of just knows this.

It is my understanding that a day runs from 0:00:01 to 24:00:00.

For that reason, I voted for the second option.

And that's the thing. There is no "universally accepted" option. That's why we need to take you "day starts at 01" people and toss you into the black hole. It's the only way. So, c'mon now, step lively.

No! Quite the contrary.

Like counting cards. I can't actually do +1 / -1 that fast, if I do it literally like that. I can't even mentally say the numbers that fast. Actually, learning another way to do it is what allowed me to count a deck in 9sec and win two trips to Vegas. You don't "count", you "group". You "pile it" in a way you understand first, the fast and easy way, and then you process the pile at the end, as opposed to processing the individual pieces as they come. Your "pile" is days. After you get your pile, then you process it into months and leftover days =)

If I'm reading you right. I could be way off base lol

BTW, the Solar year in Mars is almost exactly twice as long as an Earth year. The local day in Mars is a bit over 24 hours. Given these facts, Martian calendars have been proposed using 12 months of 60 days each.

That would screw up my system.

I voted for the start of the 14th because it seems logical to me. If it means anything Wiki agrees with me.

"Under the 24-hour clock system, the day begins at midnight, 00:00, and the last minute of the day begins at 23:59 and ends at 24:00, which is identical to 00:00 of the following day. 12:00 can only be mid-day."
