- I have found that the birds around here prefer black oil sunflower seeds to any of the seed mixes. I buy it by the 40 lb bag.

I mix them with the regular bird seed in a 1 to 3 ratio. If I put out a feeder with just sunflower seeds it will be empty in a couple of hours. At $25 for a 40 lb bag of sunflower seeds. No thanks.

Don't birds need rocks in their diet? Just add pebbles.

Real men on the last weekend in October mow the lawn for
last time of the year. Even if it's only 49° and windy, Made sure
the winter battery charger who's connected to the Harley battery.
It keeps a trickle charge going to it all winter. Harley batteries .
are expensive to replace. I'm thinking about selling it and getting a trike
for next summer. I'm getting too old to keep a 1,000 lb motorcycle upright.
Saw a bunch of old guys on trikes at Sturgis this year and they love them.
All the fun of a motorcycle and half the work.

I always wondered the point of those trikes. And how they handle.

We have a lot of leaves on our property and usually it takes a couple pick up loads to get rid of them after raking and bagging.

This year She Who Must Be Obeyed suggested we use a mulching mower she recently put in the back shed.

Wow, works like a charm: gets rid of the leaves and fertilizes the lawn, a win-win.

While she was mulching I went to the local Pick 'n Pull and got a couple parts for my Volvo 740: saved over five hundred bucks as compared to the cost of new.

Real men go to wrecking yards and pull parts; real women mulch.

Solar cooker.

n 1994, a volunteer group of engineers and solar cooks produced the CooKit, based on a design by French scientist Roger Bernard.

Quote:
The CooKit is made of cardboard and foil shaped to reflect maximum sunlight onto a black cooking pot that converts sunlight into thermal (heat) energy. A heat-resistant bag (or similar transparent cover) surrounds the pot, acting like a greenhouse by allowing sunlight to hit the pot and preventing heat from escaping. It weighs half a 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) and folds to the size of a large book for easy transport.
