I think this was discovered by Gary Larson many years ago, It's the classic "Dammed if you do/Damned if you don't" paradox (and you'd better pick one or the other!)

The Theological Fallacy: ascribing everything to a deity with a plan, thereby making science, philosophy and policy (not politics) the downtrodden handmaidens of religion. The atheist version of this fallacy can best be summed up as "Everything happens for a reason."

It's only when we quit looking for a special meaning in existents (not in existence) that we began to find the real reasons for all manner of natural phenomena (ie for everything).
