| Fleastiff Member since: Oct 27, 2012 Threads: 62 Posts: 7831 | IF William Tell ever existed (big if right there) he could not have been Swiss at the time since his acts were supposedly the basis for the founding of the Swiss federation as a repudiation of the authority of Austria over the area. In all probability he never existed and certainly there is no reliable evidence of the apple on the head crossbow shot. Nice story, perhaps true but not likely. Good draw for tourism dollars, I imagine. Sort of like Holland putting up that statue of the little boy with his finger in the dike. It was a fairy tale, utterly absurd but so many tourists kept asking about it that it was easier to erect a statue about a fake event. |

He is releasing a bunch of thoughts and materials before he goes, including a book. I read a statement from him today where he regrets picking Palin as a running mate and wishes he picked Leiberman instead. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts."
