2018 "The Haunting of Hill House" (10 episodes) loosely based on 1959 novel, "The Haunting of Hill House"
2020 "The Haunting of Bly Manor" (9 episodes) loosely based on 1898 novella, "The Turn of the Screw"

Mike Flanagan (age 42) created both mini-series and is known for his horror films, all of which he directed, wrote, and edited, including
  1. Absentia (2011), made for $70K and picked up by Netflix
  2. Oculus (2013),
  3. Hush (2016),
  4. Before I Wake (2016),
  5. Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016),
  6. Gerald's Game (2017), and
  7. Doctor Sleep (2019).

Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Carla Gugino, and Catherine Parker are in the cast of both series, but not as the same characters.

What do you think of this horror series? It seems a little more like family therapy than traditional horror.

They’re married?!

I knew she was in most of his movies and shows, but he just seemed like a director who enjoys using the same actors in a lot of his work.

Haven’t watched Bly Manor yet. But I enjoyed Hill House.

And I thought he did a great job with Doctor Sleep.

They’re married with two kids, but she identified as bisexual when she began making movies so she might get a girl pass on occasion.

He was a little better looking when they met six years ago.

You seem to have trouble finding material that you and your wife both enjoy.

That is very true. I doubt we spend one hour a week together watching TV or movies,

Once every few months we will pick a classic movie that we both like and watch it again. It is usually Airplane or Blazing Saddles.

My parents have a TV room / office next to their bedrooms and they finally set up individual TVs. Since neither of them like headphones, they either watch at different times or one has captions on while the other has sound. Once in a while they do turn around and watch the same TV together.

I grew out of scary movies in my
20's. Never seen an Elm St movie or
a Friday the 13th or any of them.
I did see It because of the book,
but it was areal yawner. I'll never
bother with the sequel. Why people
watch this stuff is a mystery to me.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I enjoyed the original series more, this new "Haunting" series (while not really a sequel, not sure what to call it), was simply not as intriguing as the first one, many of the main cast was used again (in different roles, again not a sequential sequel or related story), and they were all great.

But, the story in the new series is just more obscure (and not in am enjoyable way), I still don't fully understand what happened (and not in a good mysterious way).

The first series was far superior in my opinion.

I was a little bit surprised by the ending of the first one. I didn't expect so much of the menace to vanish.
