Australia alleges that Chinese navy attacked divers with sonar
As per the "Associated Press" agency, the frigate HMAS Toowoomba was sailing in international waters within Japan's exclusive economic zone en route to a planned port visit. The vessel had to make an unscheduled stop when fishing nets entangled its propellers.

Divers were dispatched underwater to rectify the issue. As per the Australian report, during this time, the ship was signaling warnings about the ongoing underwater operations.

During the operation, the Chinese destroyer PLA-N DDG-139 allegedly approached the Toowoomba, causing the Australian vessel's crew to reassert their alert about the ongoing operations and urge the Chinese vessel to maintain a safe distance.

In a statement issued on November 18, Acting Australian Prime Minister Richard Marles revealed that despite receiving the warning, the Chinese vessel drew even nearer.

Shortly thereafter, the destroyer was observed using a hull-mounted sonar, posing a danger to the Australian divers. Upon surfacing, the sailors were examined and found to have sustained minor injuries, likely due to the sonar pulses, Marles added.

Chinese Navy Rules The Seas

US Navy Total Active Ships

2017 342
2019 752
2023 365

Expected to shrink to 280 ships in 2027.

China is once again pressuring Argentina to build a naval base in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego province, which would mean opening the door to Antarctica for Beijing.

I couldn't disagree more. They may have the most ships but they are very substandard by U.S. specs. They don't have range and they don't have many friendly ports around the globe for refueling and maintenance. They are very isolated to their area of the globe.

President Obama said all there is to say. I do not understand your guy's obsession with raw number of ships....

Also, China still does not have a Blue Water Navy (and may not until the 2030s...) China Navy is a threat compared to say Russia as they were discussing, but not a significant competitor.

New President -elect of Argentina said he's going to disengage with China and more closely ally with the US, including dollarizing the economy.

China currently operates twelve Chinese military-run 'space stations' in South America.

'The reactions of the international community, especially the U.S. and the European Union, to the Chinese advance are one of concern, not only because of their position in space but given that the investments are intended to monitor, spy on and collect information from the satellites of the Atlantic Alliance countries.'

The spy station they operate in Argentina became operational in 2017 under a bilateral agreement, and Argentina is probably stuck with it. It depends on what kind of man the new president is.

Any navy that can fire nuclear missiles at us is a significant competitor.

Follow the trend.

The size of our Navy is shrinking, while theirs is increasing.
