Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed four bills into law Friday morning regulating firearms in the state.

“Coloradans deserve to be safe in our communities, in our schools, our grocery stores, nightclubs and everywhere in between,” Polis said during the signing ceremony at the Capitol, surrounded by gun-control advocates.

The new laws raise the minimum age to buy a gun to 21, impose a three-day waiting period for gun purchases, expand the state’s Extreme Risk Protection Order law and make it easier for gun violence survivors to sue the gun industry.

There has been a 3 day waiting period for decades.

The "sue the gun industry" is a joke and a payoff to trial lawyers. The gun industry has zero to do with gun violence.

stats on crime

from the article dated July of 2022 :

"Despite politicized claims that this rise (homicides) was the result of criminal justice reform in liberal-leaning jurisdictions, murders rose ROUGHLY EQUALLY in cities run by by Republicans and cities run by Democrats."

The kind of thing that impresses low information people. As if murder is the only crime!

Guess the gun industry has zero to worry about if you think so.

Except for the likely tens of millions of dollars it costs to defend against even frivolous lawsuits. I assume that gun manufacturers are regulated like light bulb manufacturers, car manufacturers, etc. if they follow those regulations they should be exempt from a lawsuit simply based on the result of someone using a gun to commit a crime.

If a gun manufacturer makes a faulty product, like the safety doesn’t work, then I would hope they are still able to be sued.

Not at all. Lawyers will try to sue a deep pocket if they can make a buck. The whole thing is just more of the gun grabbers trying to end-run the right to own a gun.

Really, the whole thing is like suing gay rights groups if you catch AIDS.

This has long been the case. Gun manufactures have a special immunity from the use of their products, regardless of how they market them.

Basically, unless the gun is defective or they intentionally sell to a known illegal buyer they are off the hook. They probably have more civil protection than almost any other industry, which is ironic because they sell a product designed to kill.

See the PLCAA
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/chapter-105

(Ironically/Conveniently when it passed all active and pending civil actions were automatically dismissed)

The gun industry spends a lot on lobbying (as you can see it pays off), but they have to spend almost nothing on legal defense..... It is a very perverse circumstance.

Sounds like you’ve given this a lot of thought…

Many might assume that righties who love Trump believe that he is not guilty on the various charges he faces.

That is not really where it's at.

What it really is is this:

They don't care even if he is guilty.

Because he is so very, very wonderful. An infallible hero - almost a Superman to so many of them.

Also:

3 people were shot dead in suburban Virginia on Thursday.

It only made the local news, it didn't make the national news.

3 people is not enough dead people to make the national news.

I think right now there has to be at least five dead people before the national news will jump on it.

And that is why they need the protections. Trial lawyers try to get an uninformed and gullible jury to somehow believe that gun crime is their fault. Sort of like saying Ford was responsible for Dillinger's bank robberies because they made a V-8 car that could outrun the cops.

Nothing perverse about it. Just our government protecting people from being sued to death for making a legal product.
