Regardless of who is speaker, didn't the Gaetz 8 complain that McCarthy gave in to keeping the government funded? Isn't Scalise going to face the same issue in 30 or so days.

He'll face the same problem, but he's more likely to be willing to risk a shut-down than McCarthy.

Looking more and more like no republican will be able to get 217 votes on the floor.

Gonna need some Dem help.

Hope they don’t expect nothing in return for the favor!!!

McCarthy and now Scalise are going about it all wrong. They should be strong arming the GOP to fall in line. Threaten them with a Jeffries speakership unless the dissident GOP votes for Scalise.

If I’m Hakeem Jeffries, this is what I do…. Press conference….

‘My Republican colleagues across the aisle can’t decide which of their two announced candidates for speaker they will support. So they are now leaving that decision up to to Democrat conference. We have decided to support Scalise, as Jordan is wholly unacceptable. If there are any other decisions the Republicans need us to make for them my office door is always open.. ‘

There's talk of nominating Trump, a non-member, for the position.

LOL that would rock.

Can you imagine Donny trying to navigate the intricacies of parliamentary procedure?

No. Steve Scalise is not a viable option for the Dems. He voted for the coup on 1/6/21. That is a red line.

Maybe Hakeem should tell the GOP the moderate Repubs he's willing to support? That being said, I'm completely okay with the GOP's circular firing squad.

This is what he said today:

Quote:
Looks like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is making his move, telling reporters Dems could work with the @GOP on a consensus Speaker choice.

"It means partnering to reopen the House," Jeffries said, "and changing the rules that were enacted in January that empower...extreme members."

Neither Scalise nor Jordan would be a “consensus” choice.

If someone wants to take aim at Trump, they should nominate Liz Cheney.
