In the 30's and into the 40's, Crosby was by far the biggest singing star in the world. And to this day, he's still the 3rd biggest movie box office star, behind Clark Gable and John Wayne. And his song White Christmas is still the best selling single of all time. They pressed so many that in 1947 a new master had to be made because the old one was wearing out.
The 7 'Road' movies Hope and Crosby made were wildly successful, especially the first 5. It made super stars out of them and their casual onscreen demeanor is unmatched in any other team.
They made hundreds of appearances with each over the decades, and were even business partners in real estate and oil. Yet they never had dinner together, never went to each others homes, never did anything together socially. It was a business relationship only.
Which was probably wise. Look what happened to Lewis and Martin. There's was all business too in the last couple of years together, but only because they hated each others guts by then.
Bing had to have something to do in between beating his kids |
