Rooting for a recession in the face of this virus is repugnant.

That's great for the top 1%. Are you part of that top 1%
How about the millions of regular working Joes like me that have lost thousands in the last week
The reality is not bargains, the reality is for most Americans, their IRA has shrunk

I'm certainly not better off due to my business sector, business travel, has been decimated.

No, I am not in the top 1%. I am also not speaking about anyone but myself because the question is not asking me to do so. I work for a company now that grew from one that failed because of bloated overhead and failure to adjust to some changes in the marketplace, The company that we built when we stopped getting paid by the other one has done well and has adequate reserves to move forward for quite a long while. In addition, education (moving to a higher paying job) and paying off bills (with some work still needed!) have allowed us to invest more. My investments are down, but they will go back up before I need them.

If you want to talk about the country as a whole, up until this virus arriving on the scene, most were doing better. The virus is a total disruption of that norm and it is a ridiculous move on the online persona named ams288 to even ask the question at this point because is smacks of both rooting for the oncoming recession and the disruption caused by the virus. That is truly despicable, That doesn't mean we can't discuss things that went wrong in the response; I think that testing as taken to long to ramp up.

At this point, way too many people aren't doing better than they were four years ago. I am sad about that, not gloating about it. My wife was to get her hair done tomorrow but that may not be a good thing at this point...I told her to offer to pay for it anyway to help that person out. I strongly encourage those that can do those things to do them. Don't wait on the government to help...help someone if you can!

Its not despicable unless you consider Ronald Reagan despicable
Its a great line and Ronald Reagan used it and he should have used it and I have no issue with Ronald Reagan using it

We disagree. There is a time and a place for everything. I don't think Ronald Reagan was rooting for a recession and a virus helping it along. I think ams288 has been rooting against YOU (and others who would be hurt by it) and for a recession.

I don't have a lot today and I think your online persona has been rooting for a recession for a while. Why do you care so much?

But using your logic, Ronald Reagan was rooting for Iran to keep the 63 hostages and not release them immediately. If Iran keeps the hostages instead of releasing them, we are absolutely not better off.

I don’t. It’s just amusing to me.

Thanks for the post. More eloquent than I could have said it.

By any metric, probably 95% or more of people are not better off today than they were 4 years ago. Before the coronavirus event the answer was probably over 80% of people are better off. The point of the question is whether you should vote for Trump or not, once you cut through all the bullshit. The Democrats are either subtly or overtly blaming Trump for everything. As I've been saying for over a year now, the American people will make that decision in November. I will say this..... I do not think anyone who was anti-Trump before this will change their mind. But I do believe there will be some who were pro-Trump who will turn to Biden.

I think the betting markets are now favoring Biden over Trump, correct?

And Trump almost never blames himself for anything. He rated his own performance on the response to the Coronavirus as 10 out of 10.
