Between this being considered by some as a personal insult and the comment about the mods having a conservative tilt, I got a good laugh.

I think that some people look too hard for an insult and that the mods do just fine.

A travel ban the left condemned as racist and opposed. Many of those let back in were US Citizens. We know now that we should have probably kept them quarantined away from everyone (what the reaction have been to that?) and that we should have closed off Europe, which was another thing done with opposition from the left, sooner and locked it down harder.

Yes, this happened on Trump's watch. No, he hasn't done a perfect job. If you look at how the process moved from doing nothing, to doing a little, and on to a shut down of the economy, it seems to me that there were more proper steps taken with consideration of the science than there were wrong steps. The very scientists that people hold up as perfect if the President says something that does not fit with what they said are the ones who helped him to the conclusion that we needed to take more and more drastic actions. The left was not onboard with many of the actions taken early on and they were not calling for other actions at that point.

It isn't like they couldn't have asked for information and suggested other ideas...they have tons of former administration people, including scientists, that could have helped them work on legislation, speak out about things that needed to be done, etc.

Look, Trump has sounded really silly during his press conferences. Made glaring errors regarding treatments, scope of the disease, etc... But I think he did a GREAT job in mobilizing the country's resources re ventilators, PPE, the Army Corps of Engineers, fast tracking Remdesivir, testing ubiquitous, etc... Many times with Trump, he just needs someone to talk/tweet for him and he would be ok.
There is NO American President that would have been able to shut down the country to the point of truly stopping the virus. The ~ 1,000,000 Americans that were overseas and came home..... which President was going to prevent that? Which President could have told Cuomo.... please allow only truly essential workers on the subways in NYC, not the debt collectors, accountants, dry cleaners, pizza bakers, etc..? The President, rightly so, only has so much power and authority.
How would you feel if he chose the "Sweden" approach?
Who will get the blame for the re-opening, WHENEVER it happens? Trump. EVEN THOUGH it is totally up to the governors.

Summary--- bad things happen. The President can only control a small part of it. The left wants to blame him for just about everything. Other than more newly printed money to be given away, I doubt we would be in any different place had we been under President Hillary. And I pray we are not under President Cuomo for the return to a normal economy.

Sans coronavirus, we we had the best economy ever. Lowest Hispanic unemployment ever. Lowest African-American unemployment ever. Stock market soaring. Kids graduating college actually sought after by companies. Bills made playoffs....

Actually we will never know that. With lack of transparency in China and Russia and the different ways a Covid death is determined we will never have accurate or comparable figures from them among other countries. All things being equal the US should have the 3rd most deaths given they are the 3rd largest country population wise.
