The problem with sports prayers in High School is that you are pressured to participate or you are not a good team member. Its the same kind of thing in the Army. Sure, you technically don't "have to" participate, but you don't want to be the guy that does not.

If you want your coach to pray in front of everyone, go to a Catholic High School (or whatever religion you are), it should not be in public schools.

It's odd, as the same people are worried about positive gender or gay influence on kids by people in authority.

That is actually why they were added in the 1950s, to combat communism which was perceived (rightly in most countries) as atheists (maybe more so Soviets than China at the time). The original pledge did not have a god reference.

It may not be establishing "a religion" , but it is acknowledging a belief in a higher power which is not something a secular country should do.

We don't want an atheist government, we want a secular government (huge difference). Secularity was the founding principle of the United States, and its ironic, that is one issue we seem to be regressing on in modern times (and within the last 4 weeks alone, massive regression).

In school I studied what was called "Western Christian Civilization."

Christianity is the smelly albatross the US will continue to be forced to wear for the foreseeable future, at least til lefties once again pack the USSC.

You claim you do not want an atheist government then you say you do. From the beginning the Constitution and other legal docs said "in the year of our Lord X" instead of just a date. POTUS was sworn in on a Bible. All kinds of government meetings started with a prayer.

I realize you are a bigot and hate religion more than anything, but you are not in an atheist country. A belief in a higher power was there from day 1.
