(1): firm belief in something for which there is no proof https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/faith I was raised religious (in a young earth believing church, about as traditional as it gets), I don't have atheist blinders, I've done the church thing.... The fact that I am an atheist is kind of a miracle because not many in my family are (maybe none). It's much harder to leave something you have been raised in since birth than vice versa. What I have found is there is zero evidence for Christianity, and evidence that Christianity is simply wrong by the age of the earth without even getting into details of the bible or god claims. We know that the earth is over 6k years old, there have been trees older than that without even getting into fossils... https://www.leaflimb.com/the-worlds-oldest-trees/ |

Yet again, you need to learn to read things critically not literally. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

How so? The bible is intended to be read literally. Are you sure that you are the one who has not been to a church? 25% of Americans believe in the literal reading of the bible. (And this is the conservative base). And many more believe in a basically literal version (that its mostly true). 40% of Americans believe the earth is under 10k years (not 40% of Christians, 40% of all Americans). This is why its alarming. |

Oxford definition of faith "complete trust or confidence in someone or something." A soldier has to have faith that his commanding officer is making the right decision. "but if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you." Benjamin Franklin |

No, it is not. It is meant to be allegorical stories to take lessons to live life from.
Yes, and 25% of Americans probably actually believed Trump was asking the Russians to check up on Hillary when they were at the debate. That just means we have 25% of people with well below average intelligence. In a population you will have that. So they believe the earth is under 10,000 years old. That means they are just that much more likely to believe in global warming I figure. I would rather they be religious and get some lessons on a moral life. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

Plenty of soldiers in Vietnam didn’t have a lot of faith in what they were told to do. Still had to do it. Fight for a hill. Give it up the next day. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

Well you need to talk to some fundamentalists, they will give you a different story. I agree with most religious extremists that works need to be taken literally or there is no point in accepting them. Something either needs to be followed devoutly or it does not, there can be no middle ground with religion. That is the issue. As for why this is a problem, 40% of Americans thinking the earth is younger than some trees causes endless issues, not least of which they do not accept evolution. Which seeps into the medical and education fields. It used to be higher, not long ago (your lifetime) that number was well over 50%, so the number is dropping far too slow. It just shows how ignorant a large segment of the population is (and before you make a Democrat joke, remember these are almost exclusively conservatives). You get bad lessons from the bible on a moral life. The bible supports domestic violence and slavery. And, genocide for that matter... Not a good book for moral lessons. |

Strange, I find far more good in it than bad. All that stuff about treating your neighbor right and not stealing is awful though I guess. [HINT: Second sentence is sarcasm and should not be taken literally] War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

You are confusing Vietnam with WWI. Vietnam was gorilla warfare, attack and disappear. The main tactic was injure as many as possible. The battle then became an extraction to take out the wounded leaving fewer soldiers to defend or attack the Vietcong. If you kill someone then the body can wait until after the battle. If you injure someone it takes 2 or 3 others and a helicopter to get him to medical help ASAP. "but if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you." Benjamin Franklin |

If I continuously tell people that an invisiible ten foot bunny watches over me and peremeates every aspect of my existence I'd be locked up. Substitute "god" for "bunny" and I am high-fived by other believers. Don't you see something wrong with this picture? |
