Don't waste your time throwing "facts" at MAGA: they're too hypnotized by the pie-eyed Piper to process anything other than Trump Approved Nonsense; their ongoing mind F-ing by their MAGA bloggers and news outlets makes them totally insular and a danger to democracy. |

People who want to go to Washington sometimes go with the dream of being a true citizen servant. They get corrupted by power all the time. The problem I have with a disengaged and inattentive President is simple--the President is the person we elected to do the job. When Presidents ignore the job or cannot due the job the awesome power they have falls into the hands of people who didn't get elected and aren't held accountable. The Secretary of Defense going missing and suffering no more consequence than "do better next time" is a symptom of folks going rouge and getting away with it. The President can't run everything but he can run his White House and Cabinet. I felt the same way about the way Trump acted after the election of 2020 and through is departure in January 2021. His actions cost the Republicans the Senate and did not make the nation a better place. He was paying attention to a lost election and whining about it being stolen instead of standing up and being a man while fighting any legal battles over the election that might have changed things. You actually can do both--honor the system and fight it as needed. I hoped the era of Trump was over just as I am glad to see the era of Biden end. |

Paragraph 2…. In our flawed two party system, I’d argue strongly that we elect a Party more so than a man or woman. I was young and didn’t pay as much attention, but supposedly ‘Reagan was a great President’ even when he was fully senile. Paragraph 3…. I don’t care what makeup (rouge) is used by cabinet members as long as they don’t go rogue. Paragraph 6…. I’m not sure why I feel this way, but I don’t think the last 4 years qualifies as an ‘era’. I’d just say it was the ‘time’ of Biden’s Presidency. I don’t think enough was accomplished, and what little was, was repudiated in the 2024 election. |

So you would be in favor of getting rid of the electoral college and having a direct popular vote? Otherwise, having more than 2 major parties means lots more contingent elections. |

Selfishly, I am generally not in favor of ditching the EC. In general, it hurts Democrat candidates which is of course good for me, and the country. If I was just charged with making a system from scratch for electing a single President of a defined populace, I wouldn’t even consider anything as silly as the Electoral College. Same sort of answer as to our two party system. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon. If I was starting a country from scratch I don’t know what would be a good working substitute for the two party system, but I’d be open to suggestions. I just don’t think any ‘good’ alternative is realistic. |

Multiple parties fielding multiples candidates per party during primary season. When the primaries are over, each party gets to put their single top candidate on the ballot, with a maximum of 3 candidates per office. Limited to three b/c that's what the current contingent election in Congress is limited to. National popular vote for Prez and VP., first past the post. The time for the EC has come and gone. |

I am in favor of getting rid of all party affiliations. Too many people pass judgement based on that "R" or "D" next to someone's name. If you don't know the persons platform, don't vote on them. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

The very first Congress tried that. Was impossible to get any work done, because there was no quorum. So the members of the House and the members of the Senate almost immediately separated into parties, in order to get schit done. For me an R or D after a name tells me-in general-what they stand for platform wise. Then I can do a deeper dive into whether or not to vote for them. |

It seems to me that most people do not do that deeper dive on the undercard candidates. They just seem to vote party. Unlike most people, I take voting for a candidate very seriously. I will not vote on any candidate that I have not read up on their personal positions. I generally only vote two or three people on a ballot even if their are 20 elections going on.
