Trump banned travel to and from China,

China has a population more than 4 times as great as that of the U.S.

China has had just over 99 million cumulative cases of Covid and just under 122 thousand cumulative deaths

the U.S. has had over 103 million cumulative cases of Covid and over 1 million cumulative deaths

there are many articles out there indicating that China underreported their Covid stats - but considering their huge population even in the much higher estimates the % who suffered from Covid in China is much lower that in the U.S.

the NYT (see link) consulted many sources and indicated that China had a much higher number of Covid deaths - 1.5 million - that rate is still way, way lower than the U.S. rate when the huge difference in population is considered

some more about Trump and Covid from Wiki:

In September 2020, responding to the pandemic as well as climate change and other urgent issues, the Scientific American condemned the Trump administration's handling of the pandemic. In the almost 200 years that the journal has been in print it has never before made a political statement. They wrote:

"The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people—because he rejects evidence and science. The most devastating example is his dishonest and inept response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which cost more than 190,000 Americans their lives by the middle of September. He has also attacked environmental protections, medical care, and the researchers and public science agencies that help this country prepare for its greatest challenges. That is why we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who is offering fact-based plans to protect our health, our economy and the environment. These and other proposals he has put forth can set the country back on course for a safer, more prosperous and more equitable future."

In October 2020, The New England Journal of Medicine, the oldest and considered to be the world's most prestigious medical magazine, published an editorial which condemned the Trump administration's handling of the coronavirus pandemic saying that "they have taken a crisis and turned it into a tragedy." The journal writes that the Trump administration's handling of the crisis has resulted in tens of thousands of "excess" deaths as well as "immense economic pain and an increase in social inequality" due to the fact that the virus hit disadvantaged communities the hardest. This is the first time the journal has ever supported or condemned a political candidate and only three other times in its over 200-year history has an editorial been signed by all the (34) editors."

No one, especially not Biden or any other Democrat would have responded as quickly and effectively as Trump.

Trump banned travel to and from China, when there were only six cases in th US, and banned European travel six weeks later.

The dems and their open border policy would have had millions of illegals pouring into the country.

In the three months before anyone even heard of Covid, more than three million travelers had already passed through New York airports, unknowingly seeding the country with the virus.

Under Trump, the Covid vaccines were developed in ten months, saving millions of lives. It takes five to ten years to develop a vaccine.

Incidentally, although still very low, daily deaths due to Covid in the US are up 181% over the past month.

TB and polio are also on the rise. Thank Biden and his open borders for that. Half the Biden illegals in NYC are not vaccinated for polio.

There is a lot of BS in this post, but the first line is the true whopper. Just laughably wrong on so many levels.

Imagine if Donny didn’t bungle his Covid response so badly: you wouldn’t have to keep pretending his presidency ended in 2019 when everything was rosy!

Well...no, that's not at all true. It was the states that you would say, 'Responded well,' to COVID that hit the brakes on the economic trend hard and created the pent up demand that led to this runaway inflation in the first place. After that, all of the places that had ceased production had difficulty keeping up with demand as they had ceased manufacturing for so long and workers had to be brought in at higher wages to compel them to work. Of course, this almost total lack of production followed by hyper-production led to great strain on the distribution channels and that very same demand for fuel (from the distribution channels), in part, led to the price of gas increasing due to the extreme demand.

Of course, Trump did the best he could to fill the nation's reserves when the cost of those fossil fuels were low (due to Covid), which was a highly intelligent move on his part.

Covid was going to have a negative economic impact one way or another, but the nearly complete lockdowns only exacerbated that.

Policies that Trump signed into law, which were economically detrimental (and he can be blamed for, in part) were the expanded unemployment which essentially resulted in people being paid more NOT to work (in some cases) than they were making when they were working. In addition to that, you had the direct stimulus monies that went to everyone because...reasons.

All that money and nowhere to go with it put an added demand for goods, rather than services. Given that people were spending so much time at home, many of these goods were coming out of the tech industry, which quickly found itself low or out on supply given how long manufacturing had been halted.

In summary, as much as I hate Trump, I can't put the economically related events from Covid exclusively, or even to any great extent, on him. I honestly can't even blame him for the stimulus, and what not. Could you imagine the Democrats clamoring for this money to go to public in the middle of a pandemic and Trump DOESN'T sign the thing? It would have been electoral suicide.

Quote from you at the beginning of Covid ams. You certainly had the dangers of the pandemic nailed. Too bad you weren't president.

Which cruise line? I’m going on a 7 day Caribbean cruise at the end of March. At this point I couldn’t be less worried about the coronavirus affecting it.

A quote from Dr. Fauci for additional context.

"I gave a public-health recommendation that echoed the C.D.C.'s recommendation, and people made a decision based on that. I'm not an economist. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is not an economic organization. The surgeon general is not an economist. So we looked at it from a purely public-health standpoint. It was for other people to make broader assessments—people whose positions include but aren't exclusively about public health. Those people have to make the decisions about the balance between the potential negative consequences of something versus the benefits of something."

What is the date on that quote RX? Is it from early in the pandemic or a CYA quote at the end?

It was true before he had to defend himself, so why does it even matter that he said it later.

I agree with this. Why should an infectious disease specialist care about the economic implications of something? Disease control would want the lockdowns to be even more stringent; someone looking at it through an economic lens would say just to leave it to the individuals to decide whether or not they need to bunker down.
