I mean, the airlines aren't technically Government, so perhaps don't stop all passenger flights for something like this? Anytime you do that then the next time the reason for doing so can become less and less and less.

I can't imagine the hotels would be inclined to give refunds right now, either...and airlines never are.

Airports get closed for hurricanes every year. While I can see the "less and less" thing you also have to realize HI is a special case. I stand by my position that if it is that important just stop flights in.

I agree with IF it is that important. I just don't think it's that important. I don't suppose the piles of ash that used to be human beings are in any great hurry to be found.

It is important. You are talking a huge amount of housing burned to the ground. Locals need the rooms, let the tourists go to the big island.

Only if the hotels intend to refund them and the U.S. or State Government compensates the hotel for the rooms the locals are using.

They should have business interruption insurance. Bottom line is this is not a place for tourists at this time. Same as you close off a town hit by a tornado or hurricane. You have to be a real pathetic person to take a vacation in a place that was just half burned to the ground.

We don’t need anymore middle man, added cost, no value, specialty insurance bulls****. It’s a private hotel. The Government pays or the people don’t get rooms; it’s that simple. Isn’t it warm there? Give them hammocks to sleep on.

Why would the government pay for a private hotel? Private hotel private insurance.

NEW YORK (AP) — The founder of Project Veritas, a conservative nonprofit known for its hidden camera stings, is under investigation by a suburban New York prosecutor’s office in the latest fallout after his ouster from the group over allegations that he mistreated workers and misspent organization funds.

The Westchester County district attorney’s office confirmed Friday it is "looking into" matters concerning James O’Keefe, who was suspended in February and later fired as chairman and CEO. The Project Veritas board said he spent “an excessive amount of donor funds” on personal luxuries.

Jin Whang, a spokesperson for District Attorney Mimi Rocah, declined to discuss the subject or details of the investigation, or what potential charges, if any, O’Keefe could face. Whang cautioned that investigations can have a variety of outcomes, not necessarily resulting in criminal charges.

News of the probe was first reported by The Nation.

O’Keefe’s lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, blamed the investigation on “disgruntled former employees of Project Veritas who had a problem with their CEO using too many car services to pay for fundraising efforts which paid their salaries.”

“We were told by the new Project Veritas CEO that the investigation had ended,” Lichtman said. “If it’s not, we will crush it in court.”

Because the government wants the rooms.

Oh, didn't sound like you were saying that. Should make it nice for their revenue manager.

Not really. Government rates will be significantly less than the guests would have been paying. If the government must step in, then the hotel needs to refund all of the reservations for the guests, cancel them all and then the Government needs to pay the hotel Government rate and put the locals in there. That's all I was saying. The guests need to be made whole if their reservations are to be forced cancelled and the hotel should at least make something.
