That's exactly what it is: a private gathering hosted by Mayor Wu. The elected official status of the attendees or the host does not make it a public gathering. The Constitution grants you the right to discriminate in your invitations to your private gatherings. But, I don't think I would knowingly attend a gathering where such discrimination occurs. Again, you'll just have to deal with my public responses to your comments that otherwise follow the rules. That's what DI is for. Or you can cite me for an infraction and sanction me. You also have the option to not participate in any topic which I also participate, but I would never ask or expect that. |

They used public resources to disseminate the invitations. Beyond that, I don't believe any group of elected officials (operating on the same level of Government city/county/state/federal) should be permitted to privately convene (unless related, or something) because that's a failure in Government transparency. They have no business being friends. If they want to be friends, then they should join a social club instead of holding elected office. But, most importantly, they used publicly-owned resources to disseminate the invitations. I won't claim to know where the party itself was to be or how the party itself might be paid for. I will claim to know details about the party, since I actually did my best to become informed of the topic at hand. Simple research indicates it was a private gathering paid for out of Mayor Wu's own pocket at a private venue. Private gathering=private guest list. |

Cool. Like I said, I didn't really care that much because it's Boston, anyway. They still shouldn't be communicating this on official channels or, in my opinion, even be associating outside of the context of their employment with the government, at all. That goes for any elected official, in my opinion. Anyway, it sounds like she is personally having a gathering by which certain races are excluded. I guess that's fine. It's legal. Don't think it's a great look and absolutely shouldn't have been communicated on official channels. "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen..let us give them all they want." William T. If it was a white mayor who only invited whites you would be OK with it? I think you would be screaming. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

Enough for what? The issue is not legality. It is about social acceptability. It is about is this proper behavior for a mayor, to have a party based on race. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

Enough to have her replaced as a local government employee. I was looking at the legal and moral angles not the social angle. |

I can only imagine if a white mayor sent out invites for a ‘white only’ Christmas party. Once again, the blatant racism displayed by Liberal Democrat leaders is astounding. The Mayor’s aide did apologize however. NOT for having the party, but for accidentally sending invites to the white council members who had to be DIs-invited! YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS UP! |
