it's hard to find something on the internet that confirms this exactly, but it seems to be true that any airplane that all of a sudden has no pilot , the plane just keeps flying or at least doesnt immediately go into a dive. So to do what it did in Philadelphia suggests purposefully putting it into a dive ... but surely not? Modern autopilot misfire can do that somehow?

It also sounds like they had just entered the clouds when the incident happened. During an emergency at such a low altitude it would be easy to get disoriented and the pilots may have tried to overcorrect in the wrong direction.
