It expressed the British government’s support for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”, while also stating that nothing should prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights of Jews in other countries. The declaration, consisting of just 67 words, was a pivotal moment in the history of the Middle East. It was published on 9 November 1917 and later incorporated into the British Mandate for Palestine (1922), which was approved by the League of Nations. This document, addressed to bishops in Italy, reaffirmed long-standing Church teachings dating back to early ecumenical councils, including the First Council of Nicaea (325), which first forbade clergy from engaging in usury. And separates the Torah from other writings, such as the Talmud. The purpose is to relay the meaning of Usury from a different perspective. In 1745, the Pope formally mentioned Usury being a "grave sin" based upon the New Covenant. There are a few good references of what a grave sin is elsewhere. Don't necessarily take words literally as they could be figurative. ----------------- USURY: By: Executive Committee of the Editorial Board., Lewis N. Dembitz, Joseph Jacobs . . . There are three Biblical passages which forbid the taking of interest in the case of "brothers," but which permit, or seemingly enjoin, it when the borrower is a Gentile, namely, Ex. xxii. 24; Lev. xxv. 36, 37; Deut. xxiii. 20, 21. The Hebrew word for "usury" is "neshek," meaning literally "a bite," from its painfulness to the debtor; while in Lev. xxv. 36, 37 "increase" is the rendering of the Hebrew "marbit" or "tarbit" which denotes the gain on the creditor's side, and which in the later Hebrew becomes "ribbit." Lending on usury or increase is classed by Ezekiel (xviii. 13, 17) among the worst of sins. See also Ps. xv., in which among the attributes of the righteous man is reckoned the fact that he does not lend on usury. The Talmud (B. To what legal end? The actions, if any, happened ten or so years ago, and Florida (where the litigation is) has a two year statute of limitations for libel. It seems the fat oaf is doing this "just because," and not because it will lead to anything that can be followed up upon. Given this, why not expand the scope of inquiry to focus on all the ways the USA violated treaties with native Americans to marginalize them and steal their homeland, including dosing them with smallpox infected blankets? When you open up a can of worms don't be surprised at what slithers out. |
