Anyway, look into Tulum. Sort of a ‘poor man’s Chichin Itza’. Also a famous butterfly trek. If you are a snorkler /SCUBA guy there’s Cozumel.

We may not have had the boots of US soldiers on the ground but I am pretty sure we had "specialists." e.g. from DEA and perhaps CIA in Mexico assisting.

I understand prior to the Jalisco raid we persuaded the Mexicans to let us extradite to the USA 92 cartel members they'd arrested, including the leader's brother.

I know what Mexico and U.S. said. I respectfully don't agree. And, I think more info will come out in the coming years. I mean we are still getting new info on raids from 2011, for obvious reasons they usually lie for at least many years right after. That being said, I don't want to fight with you over this, I stand by my assessment of the evidence and operations, if you don't agree that is fair, this is actually a view I hold which I can't defend.

I wouldn't mind Tulum, but wife has been there many times when younger, so she really doesn't want to see it again. I want to broadly go to the Yucatan, that part of Mexico, Belize, and some of Guatamala seems like a fun trip.

Seems like you would be interested in a Peru trip. Machu Pichu, and the Nazca Lines are once in a lifetime experiences. If you are interested in hiking, there is the Inca trail.
