Bowing out of this conversation, because I don't like to wrestle with pigs. We both get dirty, and the pig likes it. And you still need a refresher course in chemistry and physics. |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | someone who says "it is also laughable to consider me knowledgeable in these matters" has already confessed incomplete knowledge and need for refreshers. You've never confirmed you're an Academic, though a name ending with "DRPh" suggests it. Your idea of how to interact with other people also suggests this background. Our professors and such generally don't interact helpfully, but go after each other's throat, the world they live in is like that. I imagine them thinking "wow, someone who also says things like 'not sure though' is showing chinks in his armor, I'll attack!!" I'll also cease with this , leaving with the observation that the comment by some writer that a capacitor "temporarily stores electrical energy through distributing charged particles on (generally two) plates" has painted the wrong picture. To say "charged particles" does suggest it's a variety of particles. I still think this is probably laughable to a physicist. Physicists mean a very particular thing when they say "particle" and it just seems likely the writer does not know this. No, to say the metal plate has a charge does not get the writer off the hook. | odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | I don't own this thread, do I? Still, it seemed that people were going along with the idea of seeing 'people also ask' and just what search engines and such come up with, how accurate it is, how weird it can be, how it sometimes does answer questions that years ago were not so easy to research So some pig wrestling took place, no big deal, maybe something I said set it off. Not intended. >>> now wondering about this when hydrogen to helium fusion occurs in the sun, where do the neutrons come from? The steps are: Two protons within the Sun fuse. Most of the time the pair breaks apart again, but sometimes one of the protons transforms into a neutron via the weak nuclear force. Along with the transformation into a neutron, a positron and neutrino are formed __ Where do the neutrons come from in the Sun? The core of the sun is a fiery furnace so hot and dense that protons—nuclei of hydrogen, the sun's main constituent—slam together with such force that they fuse, producing a deuterium nucleus (heavy hydrogen, made of a proton and a neutron) plus an antielectron and a neutrino. | odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | we have a greater number than usual of granddaddy longlegs in the house. >>> what do they eat? Dead insects, rotting fruit, mushrooms, and animal droppings—these are just a few of the things that most daddy longlegs eat. Some catch small insects and other prey Daddy longlegs can secrete a glue-like substance they use to trap prey, similar to how a spider spins a web to catch unsuspecting critters. They are most dormant during the day but will come out at night to hunt small bugs and arthropods such as ants, aphids, worms, and beetles. __ Is it good to keep daddy long legs in the house? Daddy longlegs are beneficial to the environment. They prey and scavenge on other pests. daddy longlegs cause no harm to structures or to the people inhabiting them. Unfortunately, some people fear daddy longlegs because they've heard myths about them being poisonous. __ I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | River otters have made a comeback in VA, there are some where I fish ... this is not talked about much, which surprises me. To me they are about as cool a creature as you could imagine >>> The clearing of stream banks, pollution, and overharvest are all reasons why otters were virtually extirpated from the western portion of the state. The Department, along with efforts to improve riparian and stream habitats, began to supplement the natural migration of otters back to western Virginia with restocking. __ Are river otters protected in Virginia? Landowners need only to give permission to licensed fur trappers to remove river otters during the legal trapping season. If otters are causing severe damage, state wildlife agencies may issue special trapping permits to professional wildlife control operators. [they can be a problem, evidently] __ Otter December 1 through February 29 Bag Limit: The season bag limit shall be 4 otters in all counties west of the Blue Ridge. There is no season bag limit in counties east of the Blue Ridge.
