I don't go to a bank to get a visible stack of money but one of these guys may have been watching for a customer to withdraw a lot of cash.

Appropriately, her dog was named Rambo.

At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent.

why not a Crime thread?

There's a development in the 3 Australian deaths due to poison mushrooms.

here are the characters, for my benefit at least

*Erin Patterson , the mushroom cook

*Don and Gail Patterson, died, her former in-laws

*Heather Wilkinson, died, Gail's sister

*Ian Wilkinson, Heather’s husband, in critical condition

Erin Patterson has now said she got the mushrooms from the store. She’s made a mistake now for sure, for the reasons that it’s unheard of to buy such in the normal course of things … and no other shopper, evidently, got hold of these poison mushrooms.

Murderers can really be dumb

I just read about this fiasco...the cook erred in not eating some of the spiked food herself; were I the murderess I'd have eaten just enough for it to sicken but not harm me, so that when the investigation began I could then better feign innocence.

She should have said she bought them not at a store but at a stand / farmer's market and had no idea that they were deadly.

At least then it would be worth trying to a jury, but given these facts she'll plead guilty to avoid the certain conviction and harsher penalty after trial.

They would've tracked down the supposed farmer's market and queried all the vendors. She's a friggin' moron. And now she's a murdering moron.

Yes, they would but unlike the current set of facts there would be at least a tad of wiggle room for her attorney to try to plant the seed of reasonable doubt.

Her attorney would argue that the seller must have deliberately or somehow inadvertently sold her the poisoned mushrooms; probably a losing argument but enough to send it to the jury on a wing and a prayer.

Her best plan would be to show up at the hospital emergency room, and eat a small amount of the death caps before going in and telling them she had eaten the dinner also. It would be important to know how long she could reasonably wait and still have a good chance of surviving.

She likely would have survived and more likely gotten away with it.

Well, maybe not the best plan, because that would involve not eating any.

If my Ai result is right, you’ve got pretty good chances

Quote:
Overall: The mortality rate for death cap mushroom poisoning is estimated to be between 10% and 30% with prompt hospital treatment. Some estimates suggest a range of 10-15% of cases in developed countries with early access to intensive care.
Impact of Delayed Treatment: Survival significantly decreases with delays in treatment. Patients who receive aggressive support therapy almost immediately after ingestion have a mortality rate of around 10%, while those admitted 60 or more hours after ingestion face a significantly higher mortality rate of 50–90%.

A good surgeon could implant a knife in his own body painlessly at home, kill his spouse and claim self-defense. Probably already happened.
