"Gifting" can be problematic.

I tried a divorce case where the guy really wanted a Porsche 911 but his wife wasn't keen on the idea.

So, he bought it and said "It's yours."

He told family it was his gift to her.

For years he drove it, she didn't, and then they divorced.

A parade of witnesses testified how he'd gifted it to her; at the very end he was awarded it but had to give her A LOT to balance it out, much more than he normally would have if it hadn't been "gifted" to her.

In that case, the Wife didn't WANT the Porsche. He "Gifted," it to her when she didn't even LIKE the Porsche. A FORCED gift of something that the recipient doesn't even LIKE is a LOT different than a WANTED gift. For example, if I see an UGLY dress in a window and tell my Husband,"That is one of the UGLIEST dresses I have ever seen but HE thinks it looks good and he buys it for me as a "gift," and says something like,"The store said,"All sales are final," so you're stuck with this dress," I'm FORCED to accept it as a gift even though I think it's UGLY. Now let's say I see a beautiful dress in a store and I HONESTLY gush about how I'd love to have it as a dress. My Husband buys it as a gift for me and I'm thrilled to have it as I REALLY did want it as a gift. The beautiful dress is wanted as a gift, an UGLY dress is something that was forced on me as a gift I didn't want in the first place . I feel this is a good analogy for the Porsche gift that the wife didn't want in the first place. 💡🤔

In both dress cases that is an unconditional gift. You do whatever you want with either dress. You can wear them, hang them in your closet, stick them in a drawer, give them away or cut them in to rags to polish the furniture. The dresses are yours to do with what you want.

I'd imagine it was same with the Porsche. If hubby buys a car and places it in his wife's name, then the car is the wife's. End of story.

Hmm. It JUST occurred to me that the Wife could have SOLD the Porsche that she didn't want in the first place if the Porsche was put in her name and completely spoiled herself with the money and Husband wouldn't be able to protest! 😈

I bought my wife a convertible for Christmas, I never even considered asking for half of it in the divorce.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent.
