Of course they should be. But BOTH parties see it as an easy vote grab. Kind of like ‘Obama phones’. The Democrats won’t be happy until the top 1% pay ALL of the taxes. The Republicans are in favor of giving them ‘breaks’ so the top 1% only pays 30% of all the taxes. |

You mean the Lifeline program, started in 1985 under Reagan, a two-term Republican and expanded to include wireless under W. Bush, a two-term Republican? |

No, I’m talking about the free phone program called ‘Obama Phones’ started in 2016. You must be thinking (or not?) about the Universal Access Initiative from 1985, before cell phones were readily used by the general public. But forget the details…. are actually trying to imply that Obama didn’t start giving out free phones which literally are referred to as Obama Phones? Geez….. I expected a ‘it’s a good policy’ response rather than a reality denying response….. |

Jesus Christ you're effing dense and ignorant sometimes. Ronald Reagan's FCC started the Lifeline program, a government program providing discounts on phone service, in 1985. W Bush's FCC expanded the program to include cellphones/wireless phones, in 2005. It's called "Obama phone" because his GOP opponents used the term as a vile pejorative against him. It's been in operation for decades, predating President Obama's presidency. The program is designed to help low-income individuals afford essential communications services. So yes, Doctor Dumbo, it is a matter of objective fact Obama in fact "didn’t start giving out free phones which literally are referred to as Obama Phones", because the program was in existence for several years before he took office, and longer than that for landlines. A 30 second google search would've made you look less stupid. Back to you: which "Obama phone" program in 2016 are you referring to? Or do you believe more GOP propaganda? Which one of us is denying reality now? |

It's been the same program all along, the only thing that changed under Obama is they started offering internet connectivity as well. But, it literally was a Republican program, but Republicans are only offended when a Democrat does it ... They also think saying "Obama" is a slur, so "Obama Phone" "Obama Care" etc.... all sounds scary (even if Obama Care was also originally a Republican plan from the 80s as well...) |

Enjoy your heads in the sand if you want to believe giving out free phones for votes is a Republican platform and not a Democrat one. Geez…. |

Um, free phones for the poor has been a GOP program since 1985, and for cellphones since 2005. To state that free phones for votes is a Democrat platform is nothing but GOP propaganda. Why do you believe propaganda, SooPoo? |

Giving out free phones is quite literally a GOP plan from the 80s. I'm not saying it's for votes, but the whole program was GOP designed, this is not disputable. |
