Is RFK using some model that has been used before successfully? Or is he just claiming he will do things better without actually having done anything?

[all these organizations like AAP reflexively suing HHS etc]
this helps convince me RFK is on to something

JFK clearly has more sound medical knowledge and successes than all those organizations combined.
RFK is right to say, generally speaking, they have failed us completely in many areas ... meanwhile making sure they succeed in one area: making lots of money

the AMA for example has been criticized for at least as far back as the 70s for not accrediting more medical schools so we would have enough doctors. There have always been plenty of eager, qualified students. The solution has been to import doctors from other countries, which frankly the public doesn't like. More importantly, the solution is failing and lack of doctors in rural areas has reached crisis proportions. This has negatively affected me personally.

15- 20% that get into medical schools washout without graduating. Why would having more schools help that? Lower standards is what you mean.

My bad, I read that wrong. Appears to be 3%. (Not counting delayed graduation) Still would we really have more enrollments without lowering standards? Not so sure.

Take college. If we had ten more top level academies like the ones we have, would we really just fill them up with exceptionally qualified students? The exceptional students find they way into the best colleges. At least I haven’t heard of top level students having trouble getting in.

I'd say we need to see number of schools and slots vs. population. It probably has not kept pace. Not to mention how many students might come from overseas to train in the USA? They do it for undergrad and MBA programs, why not medical.

Why not is because the AMA is a guild same as actors and lawyers.

To try to find out if there is something to OGs claim, I asked this of Google Ai.

Do well-qualified applicants usually have to wait several years to get an opening in an available medical school?

Quote:

No, well-qualified applicants do not usually have to wait several years to get into medical school. A multi-year delay is more common for applicants who need to significantly strengthen their academic record or gain more experience before reapplying.

If that's true, it looks like lower standards is the actual answer.

When I as in grad school I went to school with several individuals who got their Master's in order to strengthen their academic chops for med school. I also went to school, with several physicians who wished to learn more about the administrative/public policy side of healthcare.

As for increasing the amount of physicians in the US, we can graduate thousands more graduates. We can open more medical schools and we can lower standards...if we want. But the primary driver of how many people become licensed physicians each year is the number of medical residency slots, which are primarily funded by Medicare. And Congress sets that funding level, and Congress itself has capped the number of residency slots it will fund per year. There are always more applicants for residencies than available slots. So we will need to come up with the money to fund more residency slots. Is RFK Jr going to do something about that?

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suggested there may be a link between autism and circumcision while reasserting the unproven theory that Tylenol causes the disorder — and medical experts are pushing back against the claims.

So we have a lack of doctors in our country so bad that even immigration can't fill the need. Because some students are flunking out, this shows if we tried to produce more the rest would all deserve to flunk out and we wouldn't get anymore doctors I guess? Oh, I see, they'd graduate but all be terrible doctors, the AMA is right and has been right for at least 50 years because all they have to do is come up with some BS like that. And, especially, make sure nobody like RFK gives them any trouble.

The AMA is always right, that's the mantra for RXwine.

They'll succeed in getting rid of him, probably soon, our resident Dems cheering the bullies all the way. They love their powerful allies

And, damn it, RFK badmouthed the Dems in the election and went on to help Trump get elected! Our dems can't forgive him for that!

One of the problems with RFK is he allows himself to blab out stuff like this. He seems ready to jump at conclusions, even though he quotes studies doing that. He needs to be thinking about how the Media will run with these things, much of it eager to misquote

To be clear, I'm not totally on board with him, and in the matter of vaccinations I have some concern he can wind up doing harm. He may also find himself unable to accomplish anything in other areas because the problems may be so intractable. Flailing away with crackpot ideas might do harm there too. The media does have a role in monitoring what any administration might be up to and we should be glad they aren't rubber stamping RFK's ideas or anybody elses

I *am saying* that he is not getting a fair shake and that much of the criticism is reflexive, others of it vested interest fighting back for losing long tenured influence, and some of it settling scores for switching political sides

Didn't know about this problem

To be fair to RFK, he hasn't said he is focused on the lack of doctors. He did talk in the hearing about general problems of providing medical care in rural areas, how it is shrinking, and wanting to do what is possible [when he was actually allowed to talk]
