2 gold medals and 3 silver in 3 skiing events, model, worth 20 million dollars.
-scored 1580 out of 1600 on her SAT. earned early admittance to Stanford University
Her medal wins were 5 events for 5 medals. Two Olympics.

She's skiing for China though she was born in America.

note: her mother is a Chinese citizen immigrant to the US.

China does not allow dual citizenship. While nobody is talking about details, informed speculation is that China allowed her to keep her US citizenship in exchange for competing under the Chinese flag. Recently leaked documents also show that China has paid her millions since 2019.

I say good for her.

I decided to record all of the Olympics but quickly ran out of room on my DVR. So, had to start deleting events. Decided I've seen enough curling, deleted all of those, Long distance ski jumping, deleted those. I watched a bit of the Biathlon, deleted that. Still need more room to make it to the end though.

The events that can take or leave are the skiing and snowboarding events that are judged rather than timed or measured. Halfpipe, big air etc. Don’t get me wrong. The athletes are amazing and it’s fun for a while but I can’t tell the difference between a first place run and a tenth place run unless someone falls. The announcer is losing it about a switch 1440 with a Japan grab or whatever but they all look the same to me.

There seems to be style or artistic points. Same in figure skating, I imagine. I'm sure there are skill points already assigned for different skills though.

No doubt the insiders have a fair system and an expert could show me a slow motion video and explain all the subtleties about a given half pipe run, but watching it live I can’t tell one trick from another.

Figure skating is different. I don’t regularly follow it but I can get a sense of an exceptional performance vs. a good one. I can tell a double from a triple from a quad watching it live. I can’t tell a lutz from a salchow but I know an axel when I see one. It’s the only jump that starts forward and lands backwards.

Aside from watching them, I would pay to ride in two men bobsled with an expert steering even though it would be terrifying. I’m not a good enough skier to do the slope track racing, (that some refer to as like a NASCAR race), but it would be fun to do that as well. It would be fun to do the skeleton by myself, but I’m pretty sure that major injuries would occur before I even got close to the bottom.

The last time I did ice skating I gave the Canadian girl I was with a concussion when I tripped her up while falling myself. Still feel bad about that when I think of it.

I would love to try the Luge or Skeleton, preferably on an easy track to start.

I wonder if I can hire a curling athlete to mop my floors and vacuum my rugs? 🥌
