I applaud the Iranians for standing up to the bullying, blathering fat oaf and his shit for brains son-in-law.

Fuck them.

Too bad their idiocy is costing American lives.

Note: I am a true patriot, whereas the fat oaf is a boot-licking lackey.

I'm stunned that Trump making up a fantasy of negotiating with Iran

We seem to be near the fork in the road. Trump needs to choose between boots on the ground, or scaling back operations and making a deal with Iran (that would probably be identical to Obama's deal.)

Is there a way he could come out of this looking good? There is none, at this point there is only a less bad option (put Obama's deal back in place,) and hope they take it.

Probably. But it seems like Israel is destroying a few more Iranian facilities each day. USA/Israel probably has an end date in mind. They got a few more Iranian leaders yesterday.

It may be an identical deal to the Obama one, but Obama didn’t eliminate as much of the capabilities of Iran like we just did. Does Iran still have a Navy?

I don't know, we were told a bunch of things about naval missile capacity by both our government and the Iranian government. And, neither side seems to be honest about the capabilities. But, with or without a Navy, Hormuz is pretty locked down, and nobody can deny this, it is very easy for anyone to track ship movement in 2026, lots of websites where you can watch in real time.

My fear is certain groups are pushing heavily for a ground invasion of some islands (and people acting like just invading islands off the coast is not a ground invasion is silly.) And, that will escalate.

Trump doesn't have a great option. The only good option would have been telling Israel not to invade like Biden and Obama did, but it is too late for that. And, the economy will continue to get worse everyday that the war goes on. So, he could rush a deal like Obama's (and rumor is, Iran is not willing to consider another Obama deal, so it would end up being a watered down version of the Obama deal,) and look weak (he basically through a bunch of soldiers into the sausage grinder for something he got rid of and begged to get back,) or we go all out and invade.

I see zero positives from this whole affair. We destroyed the economy, threw away the lives of whatever the number is this morning SM lives for nothing, killed a leader who was planning to be killed and now they have a more extreme leader. And, we basically showed Iran, that the strategy they have been wargaming for the last 40 years of blocking Hormuz is smart. And, now even when the war ends, it looks like there will be massive tolls on all ships, which I am sure will be great for gas prices...

The few ships Iran has been allowing through have been charged 2 million (USD) for passage. And, those are their "friends," my guess is after the war the rate for non-friends will be even higher. But, even so, 2 mil for a ship each way adds up fast. Iran is actually making a lot of money in this war between tolls and oil prices surging. So we are not even harming their economy (in fact we are giving them a boon.)

Thanks for the answer to my question.

Somehow I don't think tolls will be in Iran's future, as that is international waters.

But hey, time will tell.

If Trump wants to ratchet up this "war" then he could just dumb hundreds of massive FAE's on Tehran and other targets.

Not that he should...but he could...

So kind of. It is not international waters, but an international straight per the U.N., though Iran did not sign to this and they dispute it. They feel that it falls within their territorial waters (which it does, but the UN says commercial vehicles should be allowed through unencumbered.)

And, at the end of the day, the U.S. has not been following international law to them, so why should they follow international law on the strait? And, you can remotely make the strait locked down with minimal risk and minimal money.

This is Iran's big ace in the hole. And, it's ironic that Trump has not seemed to consider this at all, even though I remember learning about this back in 8th grade history when discussing risks of conflict in Iran....
