The shipping lanes in dispute are actually closer to the Musandam Penisula which is Oman territory. The northern most shipping lane is over 12 miles off the coast of Iran. Iran can F Off with their claim of legal rights to the Straight of Hormuz. The lights will be going out in Iran shortly and looks like they are going to lose Kharg Island as well, at least temporarily. Here is hoping the Houthi's think it is their time to shine and try to close the Bab Al-Mandab Straight. That will get the Saudi's in on the action and where the Saudi's go, so go the rest of the Gulf States. Yemen & Iran regimes gone in the same conflict as a result of an Israeli/US/Saudi coalition? Then more Abraham Accords signed at the end of the conflict? Trump may get the Nobel Peace Prize for making this all happen. Won't that make the TDS collective's minds blow! We're only 29 days in, still 31 days before Congress gets to weigh in (like that matters). In the meantime, lots more Trump cooking to be done. And more TDS posts of meaningless drivel, watch this space.

Why would Trump get a Novel Peace Prize for any of that even if he pulls it off? (He won't pull it off, nor would it even necessarily be a positive outcome if he did.)

Like I said before, Trump is very popular in the world, what with all the dicking around with up and down tariffs. And the world is well aware he didn't pull them down on his own goodwill.

Had the whole thing with Greenland been a one- or two-day joke, that might be forgettable. Denmark ended up activating troops to go over there to possibly fight off an American invasion due to Trump's assholery.

Thirdly even though Israel has diplomatic peace with several countries, Israelis don't generally take vacations in any of the surrounding countries. Middleeast countries may have hostile relations with Iran right now, but in the long run they may feel more like brothers fighting once in awhile compared to giving Israel backed by the USA so much more influence in the area.

I am not even sure what the metrics for "winning" would be? Allegedly the was is not about gas prices, regime change, or the economy? It's a cliche, but this time it matter more than ever? Literally, "what is winning?"

I have not heard a single list of concrete objectives or even general goals. I think Trump is just being led by another certain government at this point, and is adjusting as they direct....

Iran is a massive mountainous country nearly 4 times larger then Iraq and almost 3 times the population of Iraq
Lots of military targets are hidden deep in the mountains due to Iraq
This is a country that was in a brutal war with Iraq 1980 to 1988
They lost about 500,000 soldiers as the war ended in a stalemate
Only one of the most brutal wars in that region ever
In comparison we lost about 50k in the Vietnam War
Iran can easily take a huge licking and keep on ticking
Attacking Iran was folly

Not saying it’s true, but the Administration would say ‘preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon’ would be goal number one. And they would say goal number two would be preventing the regime from killing off the young protesters.

Both are laudable goals, but as many have mentioned here…. what endgame actually gets us there?

If US Troops go on Iranian soil, Netanyahu should be sending the proper proportion of Israeli troops as well.

I thought after the war last summer their nuclear program was "permanently obliterated?" I doubt Trump would lie about such a thing...

As for protesters, I have never heard this as a cited reason. Nor would that be a reason to invade a country.

I think we both no the truth is, Israel told Trump they were going to attack, and he could join them or they would on their own. They did this to Biden and Obama, both said, "okay have fun on your own," and Israel folded and canceled the attack. Trump didn't stand up to them.
