Star Wars has opened in Europe, Asia, and Australia by now. It has a rating of 9.1 on imdb.com, putting it in the #3 spot of all movies. I've noticed that rating often drop off after the first week.

It gets 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is
the important one. IMDB is chock full
of negative trolls who delight in giving
good movies the worst reviews possible.

Nice to know WoV isn't alone.

I'm thinking of seeing TFA (The Force Awakens) on Sunday. There are still some decent seats available through Fandango. Nothing good left for Saturday.

I was reading an article about IMAX versions of new Star Wars

"Only 18 theaters in the United States and Canada are actually projecting The Force Awakens in 70mm IMAX"

"Apparently, Disney underestimated the demand for a full IMAX presentation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens - so much so that they didn’t strike enough 70mm prints to put into as many theaters as Interstellar."

WTF, Disney underestimated demand. This isn't a surprise blockbuster out of nowhere (like the original Star Wars)

Luckily, Tampa is one of the 18 locations and with a dome, MOSI Museum of Science and Industry :-)

"Right now, if you live in New York City and want to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 70mm IMAX, you’d have to drive two hours to Philadelphia. If you live in Chicago, you’d have to drive three hours to Indianapolis. If you live in Austin, you’d have to drive 10 hours to Branson, Missouri."

I'm not ever going. I might see it on
TV someday, but SW bores the crap
out of me. I do like the new Star Trek's
with Chris Pine, however.

This movie was not shot in 3-D, except for one scene shot in IMAX 3D (believed to be the escape from desert planet). The director JJ Abrams said in a press conference that he thought a few scenes looked better in 3D, but the whole statement seemed insincere. Since Abrams is not normally an advocate of 3D, and potentially hundreds of millions of dollars could be made on 3-D showing, it sounded like he was under pressure to say something conciliatory.

I did watch Avatar in digital IMAX and 3-D, but that is how it was shot so it was worth standing in a huge line and shelling out 3 times the normal price.

For true devotees that want to see the film in 70mm IMAX, it is shame that Disney is ripping them off by sending the digital version to the theater instead.

Under $500 million worldwide, would probably be catastrophic.

How many catastrophic movies has Disney released (The Black Hole)?

Hundreds! Probably more movies than could be considered successful.

The Black Hole (1979), 14 million tickets sold

It's Pat (1994), 33 theaters, 14,600 estimated tickets sold

Terminal Velocity (1994), 1800 theaters, 4.0 million estimated tickets sold, $50 million production budget

The Lone Ranger (2013) 11.4 million tickets sold domestically, Production Budget: $215 million

John Carter (2012) 9.2 million tickets sold domestically Production Budget: $250 million

I'd like to know if all the Herbie movies in the 70s made any money. I couldn't sit still through one....

Now, has anyone ever seen or even heard of:

1) The Black Cauldron

2) Song of the South
