That's an interesting article. So they design an electric car, then they produce the minimum number they need to meet CA law, and sell them for whatever fraction of the cost that they can, and take the financial loss. Over 25,000 Nissan Leafs have been sold in the US – 62,000 around the world – since the car went on sale in late 2010. Average sales are about 2000 per month. Fiat has sold 3000 of these 500e cars in 10 months. It seems like it would be cheaper to simply purchase 300 cars from Nissan and resell them at a $5K loss than to go through all that trouble and lose $14K per car. |

What you suggest is a simple version of the business plan for Tesla. My suggestion is sell the "new" cars out of state then put them on the lot as "used" cars, just been filtered through a super-dealer in Phoenix. Give the same new incentives somehow. The feds screwed up when they allowed CARB to have the same power as the EPA in the 1960s. I tip my hat to the new constitution, take a bow for the new revolution |
