It's regrettable that anyone got killed, more regrettable when they are unarmed, and I'm old fashioned enough to regret it the most if it is a woman, and I have to think I would have clubbed this woman and not shot her.

Overall, though, I have to say I can not really condemn this action. Insanity has consequences.

They are already saying that if these were Black protesters they would all be shot. Hopefully we will never know.

To me, if a mob is threatening you or our leaders, lethal force is likely justified as it is not reasonable to ascertain if each assailant is armed or not. I will not shed one tear if it was a protester (rioter) who was shot.

Police are trained to use the 'wheel of force'. Picture a wheel in front of you from which you can select the degree of force suitable for the situation.

Physical presence is most often all that is necessary. Which is why it is so important for an officer to be professional in their appearance. After that, comes verbal command. Beyond that is physical contact, or tasers, pepper spray or expandable baton.

A firearm is used as a last resort. Police officers are also trained not to fire a shot when there are people in the background. They are reminded over an over, that if they miss their target, they could kill an innocent person. There were dozens of people behind that woman.
