Well, I have heard the theory that as life expectancy increases we develop more "old" people's disease that weren't encountered as much in the past. Medical advances has been able to do very little stop the effects of old age. We have gotten much better at keeping people alive after heart attacks, strokes and numerous other diseases but we have not gotten very far in stopping the slow failing of the body from old age.
