Look at it this way You never hear stories about some girl that got so stoned on weed, she passed out and guys, well, you know on the other hand with alcohol which is legal, those stories are to common. If I had a 18 year old daughter, I would rather her smoke some weed rather then get drunk Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |

I'm not sure if it is that way with marijuana as much anymore since people could be getting it from legal venues. Anyway, I believe if liquor stores also sold legal heroin and no other drug you would also see a gateway effect. Ergo, liquor leads to heroin would also be true. This wouldn't really be proof that liquor leads to heroin, but if you market them together it will look like it because there will be more heroin use. Often drug dealers are dealing in other drugs. And they all have the same thing in common. They are illegal. Thus the gateway effect. It's really no different than you introduce your grandma to her first live bingo game. Not at church where it would likely be the only game. But in a casino. Eventually when you find your grandma out hitting the slots so now you found Bingo leads to slots and other forms of gambling. The "gateway drug" thing gets misunderstood. There are plenty of people who like their pot and are satisfied for life. But what I have always seen is people who use it are very often the kind of people who both want and are willing to experiment with anything and love any kind of high. Like any other people with common interests, they tend to hang together eventually. So guy gets together with some stoner friends and one brings his buddies some new drug he heard about or ended up trying. Most will try some. This, not the effect of the pot, seems to be the gateway. Meanwhile, my employer has major operations in Colorado and currently is losing about 1/3 of potential hires to drug test fails. Maybe there is a try-it-out effect going on, or maybe that many people like getting stoned. Better for me if the effect spreads, less competition. Last few years I just stopped caring about what happens with it. I've seen pot destroy people, seen it just slow them down. But the police state being created is worse than if we get 1/3 of the population ending up as hard core users. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

I knew a woman 30 years ago that smoked weed ever day. She still does. I saw her last year and she said her life has been great, except for 1990-2000 when she was a heroin junkie. She tried it once and quit 10 years later before she died from it. Every hard drug addict started with weed. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Best pot story I heard. In 1948 Buddy Hackett was a stand up comic, just getting into the business. Young and really talented. He started hanging out with the musicians after the clubs closed and they always had pot. He started smoking it every day. A few years later he got sick from something and had to stop the pot for a few weeks. It hit him like ton of bricks that he thought he'd been doing great the last few years, but he was only treading water because the pot had robbed of any ambition he had. He never went back and became a famous movie and stage performer. Pot is insidious. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

It might have caused Willie Nelson to forget to pay his taxes. Didn't seem to hurt his performances or creative output. He's 83 now. Speaking of.
