Update on NBC sitcoms. It looks like Powerless will be the 35th straight NBC sitcom to be cancelled before enough episodes are produced to go into syndication. Powerless: 9 episodes- pulled from schedule as ratings were horrible Trial & Error: 13 episodes The Good Place: 13 episodes and renewed Carmichael Show: 19 episodes aired, 13 more episodes to air this summer Superstore: 33 episodes aired, NBC renewed the series for a 22-episode third season. Superstore may be the first NBC sitcom to make it to syndication since Parks and Recreation and Community in 2009 NBC is reviving an old sitcom out of desperation. You can imagine the salaries that these actors are getting |

Gag. That show was on 2 seasons too long, they want it back? There are only so many Gay jokes before the well is dry. They ran out of them on Modern Family 2 seasons ago. Plus, Gay just isn't that funny anymore. It's passe and boring. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

At sometime in September 2010, Wunderlich Securities analyst Matthew Harrigan, said that USA Network is the most valuable part of NBC Universal at $11.7 billion, but the NBC network is worth a negative $600 million. And this valuation was made at the beginning of the great collapse of new sitcoms. Remember that NBC was almost built around sitcoms in the 1990's when they were airing as many as 17 at one time. |

I can picture the opening scene: Kramer's funeral. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

It seems like that is the new strategy. It's not enough to bring the stars back of the old TV series, you have to bring back the original show. X-files, Will and Grace, and multiple streaming shows like Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Community, The Mindy Project , Full House, etc. |

There is the possibility that after 60+ years of TV there are truly no original ideas for a network sitcom. The President is a fink. |

I don't know if originality matters as much as charm and wit. One of the few sitcoms that is staying on the air is named after one of the original sitcoms which came directly from vaudeville. The Goldberts just finished airing it's 93rd episode which means it will be syndicated next year. |

It is about being entertaining. Networks keep forgetting that and go to either PC or "edgy." One thing I would do if I had a network is bring back the "family hour." 8-9. No innuendo or any remote off-color at all. But write so that parent's don't get bored. Then take it back to 11 as you win one time slot after another. 9-10 a little more mainstream. 10-11, keep as-is. The President is a fink. |

This renewal happened despite the last two episodes drawing fewer than 3 million viewers. The Networks may simply have to get used to the fact that nothing that they do will ever draw the massive audiences of the last decade. I wonder what the "Will and Grace" actors will be paid? LAST NBC SITCOMS to run to syndication Apr 9, 2009 to Feb 24, 2015 Parks and Recreation (125 episodes) Sep 17, 2009 to Jun 2, 2015 Community (97 episodes) NBC SITCOMS CANCELLED
