That seems to be what the public wants. The woman from the newspaper who drove for Uber for six months and wrote a story about it said the biggest complaint she got in the Philly area was, she was the first English speaking driver a lot of passengers had seen. Because this is such a low level bottom of the barrel job, it's immensely appealing to those in society who can't speak a word of the language. And never have to learn, GPS speaks in any language it's programmed for. These passengers were thrilled she spoke English, they were uncomfortable riding in the personal car of a stranger who they can't even talk to. Gee, I don't know why.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

You think Marx would have disapproved of a company that gave the workers 80% of the income? He was naïve and mistaken, not stupid. Oh, and don't the Uber workers own the means of production? That business plan is positively Marxist. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

As long as they can put where I want to go into their GPS and follow it, that is fine with me. I'd pay more for a driver who spoke fluent English but you won't get that with a cab either. Here in Vegas they are mostly from Somalia or Ethiopia. However, they don't carry a GPS.
What I mean was EB's concern for the common man was very Marxian. If a business isn't paying its workers properly -- ban it. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

Does that not mean the last powerful Marxist country, China, ought to simply shut down for good? Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25010 | The reason I would never call Uber is I don't want to ride in some civilians car who might be the worst driver for a radius of 50 miles. At least with a cab you know the driver is a professional. I won't even ride with my wife, she scares the crap out of me. She tailgates, cuts people off, gets angry sometimes and uses the car like a weapon, drives so fast of the curve of freeway exits it feels like we're going to flip over. You think some Uber drivers aren't like this? Sure they are. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

And all Zambonis are ice-resurfacing machines, but not all cars are Fords. Oh, we're not doing "Top the non-sequitur"? :) Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

If they were really bad, but a lot of people drive like my wife does and they they think it's normal. I'm not riding with somebody who is not a very defensive driver, like I am. I learned it driving a cab, it takes time and a lot of experience. But you can see situations coming that most non pro's will miss every time. I the 3.5 years I was in the business, 90% of accidents was the fault of the other driver, not the cabbie. Studies show a drastic reduction of cab accidents compared to private vehicles, and the reason given is cab drivers are pro's and the public is not. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

You have made some good points EB but the Wiz is right on this one. You counter with people cant determine who is a good driver and who is not. That is absurd Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |
